    • A method of image processing and the image processor which includes providing a convolution operator having an input for receiving raw imaging data at a data rate N and a plurality of output paths M. The convolution operator provides a time (phase) delay T to the imaging data between the input and the output paths and applies the imaging data on a time delayed basis to the output paths in phased relation to their time of application to the convolution operator. The convolution operator provides a low pass filtering operation to the data to provide background information. A phase equalization circuit is provided having an input for receiving the raw imaging data at the data rate N and M output paths, one path corresponding to each output path of the convolution operator, to provide a time delay to the raw imaging data at each output path of the phase equalization circuit equal to the time (phase) delay T of the convolution operator. The background information from the convolution operator is subtracted from the raw image data from the phase equalization circuit to provide feature information. A combination of background information and the feature information is then provided. The low pass filtering operation includes providing a one or two dimensional decimation to the data and providing a one or two dimensional interpolation of the decimated data.

    • A scanner which includes a motor for driving a load and circuitry for providing a position error signal responsive to the difference between a predicted position of the load and the actual position of the load, preferably a mirror scanning a scene. The motor is driven in response to the position error signal. The position error signal is provided plural times during a single scanning of the scene. The circuitry for providing a position error signal includes a closed loop filter system for filtering the error signal to provide a filtered error signal, an adaptive filter system for operating on the filtered error signal to provide an adaptively filtered error signal and summing circuitry for summing signals indicative of the predicted position, the filtered error signal and the adaptively filtered error signal. The closed loop filter system includes, in series, at least one first order lead lag filter and a double integral plus proportional filter. The adaptive filter system includes, in series, a low pass filter, a register and an integrator.

    • The disclosure relates to a system for on-line normalization of the outputs of all of the detector elements of an infrared detector wherein, during the retrace period of the scanning mirror, infrared energy from a controlled thermoelectric source is reflected first from a high reflectivity sector of a rotating mirror and then from a relatively low reflectivity sector of the rotating mirror onto the detector. The detector output for the high and low reflectivity input signals is analyzed on a channel by channel basis by software controlled hardware and the gain of each channel is then adjusted in response thereto by the software controlled hardware individually. In this manner, each channel is caused to provide the same output for an identical input thereto.
