摘要： A compressed-gas-operated reciprocating-piston device, e.g. a concrete breaker, rock drill or chipping hammer, has a cylinder component of composite construction, comprising a rigid inner metal tube in which the piston reciprocates and a moulded outer sleeve of rubber or plastics material, e.g. polyurethane, which surrounds the tube over the majority of its length and is bonded thereto. The sleeve has three integral moulded longitudinal ribs in which are moulded longitudinal passages for transmission of compressed air to the cylinder interior. An outer tubular muffler of rubber or plastics material surrounds the composite cylinder component and defines a sound-reducing path for exhaust gas from the cylinder to the atmosphere. The exhaust gas is discharged into two spaces defined between two pairs of adjacent ribs of the sleeve within the muffler, these two spaces forming part of an expansion chamber in the muffler. This expansion chamber communicates with the atmosphere via a restriction, a second expansion chamber and a final duct leading to the exhaust opening in the muffler wall. The final duct is formed on the thickness of the muffler wall itself.

摘要： A door check including an arm with an arm mount is provided for mounting the arm to a vehicle door or frame. The arm includes a first surface and an oppositely disposed second surface. The door check further includes an arm guide including a housing, including a guide mount for mounting the housing to the vehicle door or frame, and a guideway for receiving the arm. The arm guide also includes two generally facing arm engaging structures mounted within the housing for receiving the arm therebetween. Each arm engaging structure faces its respective arm surface. The arm guide includes a spring between the housing and the second arm engaging structure. The spring biases that structure towards the first arm engaging structure to urge these structures into contact with the respective arm surfaces restricting longitudinal movement of the arm through the guideway.

摘要： A process for the treatment of a waste material containing species having a high alkalinity and/or pH is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of contacting the waste material with a first treatment material such as sea water concentrated by evaporation. The amount of the first treatment material is sufficient to cause at least some of the alkaline species to be inactivated, thereby resulting in a treated waste material. The process may also include a step of separating the treated waste material into solid and liquid phases and then contacting the liquid phase with a sufficient amount of a second treatment material having a low pH, so as to cause at least one of the pH and alkalinity of the liquid phase to be reduced to an environmentally acceptable level.

摘要： 2-Aryl-2-hydroxyiminoacetic acids rich in the syn isomer are prepared by reaction of an arylglyoxylic acid with hydroxylamine in an aqueous reaction medium, e.g. water, in the presence of a source of magnesium, calcium or zinc ions, e.g. magnesium hydroxide. The acids so obtained are of value as synthetic intermediates in the preparation of penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics containing syn-2-aryl-2-hydroxyiminoacetamido side chains.
