    • A system and method for displaying complex scripts with a cloud computing architecture may include a client device and a cloud computing server. The client device accesses a web application via the internet and transmits a request containing complex scripts to the cloud computing server. The cloud computing server parses the text and breaks the text down to a sequence of characters of a particular script, and maps the Unicode of each character to a particular glyph to obtain a glyph ID for each character making a one to one relationship. The cloud computing server analyzes each character, assigns, and applies specific font related operations to each glyph. The cloud computing server optimizes and compresses the glyph ID and positioning data, and transmit the compressed data back to the client device to be rendered on the display of the client device.

    • The presence of sialic acids (SAs) at the non-reducing terminal of various glycoconjugates plays important roles in the function and half-life of glycoproteins in mammals and many species of microorganisms. It has been previously unknown that plant cells have the capacity to sialylate glycoproteins. The present invention discloses the presence of sialylated glycoconjugates and identifies N-acetylneuranminic acid (Neu5Ac) and N-glycolylneuraminic (Neu5Gc) on glycoproteins in suspension-cultured cells of plants, for example, Arabidopsis thaliana (A. thaliana), Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco), and Medicago sativa (alfalfa), extending the complexity of glycan structures known in the plant kingdom. This invention further discloses methods for engineering plants to produce recombinant glcyoproteins.

    • Described herein are systems and methods for modifying electronic books (“eBooks”). A server processes eBook data to determine portions of one or more source fonts comprising various glyphs used in presenting the eBook. An embedded font is generated which includes those portions of the one or more fonts which are used in the particular eBook data. Because the unused portions of the one or more fonts are omitted, the overall size of the embedded fonts may be less than those of the source fonts. A custom character map may be generated as part of the embedded font which provides for increased document security.
