    • A method of marking a solid article or substance includes the steps of dissolving a water-insoluble medium in a first solvent to form a first mixture, mixing a nucleic acid solution with an intermediate solution to form a second mixture, mixing the second mixture with the first mixture to form a homogenous third mixture, marking the article or substance with the third mixture containing the nucleic acid; and drying the marked article or substance. Through the addition of an intermediate solution, the miscibility between the nucleic acid solution and the medium is increased and a homogenous solution is formed. For marking solid substances or articles, the water-insoluble medium containing known nucleic acid taggants is spread on the target solid substances or articles. For marking liquid, the target liquid is mixed with the water-insoluble media containing known nucleic acid taggants. As a result, the target liquid is labeled with nucleic acid.

    • A foldable screen display for displaying screen images is disclosed which comprises: (a) at least two sub-displays; (b) a hinging member for pivotally connecting the sub-displays together on a side-by-side manner; (c) a magnifying optical element provided on top of each of the sub-displays, the magnifying optical element providing a magnifying power of between about 1.05 and about 1.3 so as to cause images displayed on the sub-displays to be perceived by a user as if they were from a single display; and (d) a membrane covering both of the sub-displays and the hinging member, the membrane being made of a transparent and resilient material. In a preferred embodiment, the magnifying optical element is a zone plate type magnifying optical element and is constructed to provide a magnifying power approximately equalling to one plus the ratio between the width of the hinging member and the width of sub-display. The foldable screen display provides the advantages of being able to reduce the size of the display without compromising user's desire for maximum viewing comfort; therefore, it is an excellent device for use in making personal digital assistants, electronic books, electronic Rolodex.RTM., pen-based computers, portable TV, etc.

    • The present invention relates to a method of marking solid or liquid substances with nucleic acid for anti-counterfeiting and authentication, specifically to a method for marking solid or liquid substances with nucleic acid dissolved in a water insoluble medium. Through the addition of an intermediate solution, the miscibility between the nucleic acid solution and the medium is increased and forms a homogenous solution. For marking solid substances or articles, the water-insoluble medium containing known nucleic acid taggants is spread on the target solid substances or articles. After drying, nucleic acids protected by the water-insoluble medium adhere on surface of the object. For marking liquid, the target liquid is mixed with the water-insoluble media containing known nucleic acid taggants. As a result, the target liquid is labeled with nucleic acid.
