摘要： The present invention relates to novel copolymers and contact lenses made from these copolymers comprising preformed silicone-containing acrylic star polymers, graft copolymers and macromonomers, preparation of these contact lenses and a therapeutic method for treating patients with visual impairment.Described is a composition comprising at least about 10% by weight of a preformed silicone-containing acrylic copolymer and no more than about 90% by weight of a matrix formed from the random polymerization of a mixture of monomers. The mixture of monomers comprises at least one hydrophilic monomer and at least about 5% by weight of a polysiloxanylalkylester of an alpha, beta unsaturated acid and optionally, monomers selected from the group consisting of esters of alpha, beta-unsaturated acids and crosslinking monomers. The preformed silicone-containing acrylic copolymer is preferably copolymerized throughout the matrix. The final compositions are hydrated to a final water content of at least about 10% by weight.

摘要： Vinyl halide polymers and copolymers are formed in the presence of a linear, branched chain or cyclic alkane, and the polymer is then heated to remove the alkane and unreacted vinyl halide therefrom. The polymers so formed have reduced amounts of vinyl halide therein and hence are less likely to contaminate the air with airborne vinyl halide.

The copolymer is readily machined into gas permeable contact lenses exhibiting substantially enhanced characteristics of at least one of the characteristic group of oxygen permeability, hardness and machineability relative to contact lenses formed from the random polymerization of monomers.
