    • A method for sensing channel availability in a wireless network includes receiving a measurement request message which includes a channel interval list. A first channel interval in the list includes information associated with a first starting channel number, a first number of channels, and first linkage information of the channel interval list. The method includes processing information associated with the message, generating a first list of contiguous channels, and performing at least first channel measurement to determine a first channel availability for each of the first list of contiguous channels. The method also includes determining whether the channel interval list further includes a second channel interval that needs to be processed based on at least first linkage information, and if needed, generating a second list of contiguous channels and performing at least second channel measurement to determine a second channel availability for each of the second list of contiguous channels.

    • A method of transmitting or receiving with constrained feedback information. A transmitter transmits a plurality of transmit signals from at least one transmit antenna. The plurality of transmit signals are based on one or more input signals, one or more power gains, and one or more beamformer matrices. The plurality of transmit signals are received as at least one receive signal, at at least one receive antenna of a receiver. The receiver generates the constrained feedback information and transmits the constrained feedback information back to the at least one transmit antenna. The transmitter selects at least one of the power gains and at least one of the beamformer matrices for a subsequent transmission based on the constrained feedback information.

    • System and methodologies are provided herein for joint rate, precoder, and feedback design adaptation and optimization for wireless communication systems. An optimization component as provided herein can implement an integrated framework for joint design of rate, preceding, and feedback partitioning adaptation policies for slow fading and spatially correlated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication channels with limited feedback. The optimization component can utilize one or more vector quantization (VQ) optimization techniques wherein a feedback strategy and a transmission adaptation strategy are designed to jointly optimize average system goodput (e.g., average bits/second/Hz successfully delivered to a receiver) based on spatial correlation of the communication channels. In one example, a feedback strategy is designed as a channel state information of receiver (CSIR) partition and a transmission adaptation strategy is designed as rate and precoder codebooks.

    • Systems and methods of MIMO wireless communication system with partial feedback are disclosed. In one embodiment, a base station estimates the channel matrices of the K mobile units and transmits an index value corresponding to each of the estimated channel matrix. Each mobile unit selects a power control matrix and beam-forming matrix based on the received index value and transmits its data stream to the base station using the selected power control and beam-forming matrix. A method for generating the sets of power control matrices, beam-forming matrices, and partitions of the channel matrix space is disclosed.

    • A method of processing, in parallel fashion, messages from a User Equipment (UE) in soft handoff with a plurality of base stations of a wireless communication system. Measurement Messages from the User Equipment are received and stored in a message buffer for a defined period of time. Later arriving messages replace previous messages during the defined period of time. When the defined period of time elapses, the latest stored message is processed in parallel fashion in a processing pipeline with other messages for the UE and other UEs. The latest message is processed by first converting it to soft handoff actions and inserting such actions into a processing pipeline. A conflict table is generated during the parallel processing of the soft handoff actions to avoid the processing of messages that conflict with each other. Conflicting messages are put into a pending state and remain in such state until they are canceled by subsequent messages or the conflict no longer exists.
