    • A lighting device having a housing incorporating an electrical circuit, a light source and a source of power with a gravity controller. The gravity controller regulates the power applied to the light source in response to the relationship between the position angle and the tilt angle of the lighting device with respect to the vertical. The lighting device has a storage orientation wherein the light source is non-energized and a transporting or use orientation wherein the light source is energized. A plurality of lighting devices are mounted on a storage bracket in a non-energized orientation. A plurality of lighting devices are mounted on a carrier having a changeable orientation, wherein the lighting devices are energized during transporting and non-energized during storage.

    • A reflective surface electric road flare designed to be positioned on a roadway and to emit light to alert oncoming drivers to a hazard on the roadway. The flare comprises a housing supporting a circuit. The circuit comprises an led light source, a power controller and a power supply. The power controller energizes the led light source with the power supply such that the led light source emits light according to its design specification. The emitted light is concentrated about the horizontal by a lens into a horizontal light beam visible throughout the azimuth. Concentrating the emitted light into a horizontal light beam increases its intensity as perceived by oncoming drivers located within the projected horizontal light beam. A portion of the horizontal light beam intersects a top surface of the road flare where it is reflected towards oncoming vehicles. The light reflected from the top surface enhances the visibility of the road flare by increasing the intensity of the light perceived by oncoming drivers and by increasing the perceived size of the illuminating surface of the road flare. The road flare is configured to withstand being run over by vehicles and to resist being moved or shifted to an undesirable location during vehicle run over.

    • A visible light transporter (1) having a carrier (25) for holding a plurality of lighting devices (L1 through L4). The lighting devices frequently employed as road flares emit a light usually concentrated into a horizontal light beam (HB) and pulsing. Carrier (25) has body 9 constructed of a light transmitting resin which permits light from the held lighting devices to be transmitted with attenuation through body 9 of the carrier. Carrier (25) also includes openings (01 through 04) which permit lighting devices (L1 through L4) to be removeably installed in pockets (S1 through S4) provided for holding the lighting devices. Openings also permit some light to pass unattenuated exterior to carrier (25). The unattenuated light (HBU) and the transmitted light (RBT) each combine exterior to carrier 25 to make it appear as a large pulsing light source and to illuminate the first responder holding the visible light transporter (1) making him visible and thereby protecting him from being injured by approaching vehicles as he deploys the lights.
