    • A catheter securement device which automatically deploys one or more sutures to secure a catheter without requiring the practitioner to manually suture the catheter to the self-suturing anchor device. A ratchet mechanism having one or more rotatable ratchet members which pivot and a ratchet member engagement spring which maintains contact between the teeth of the rotatable ratchet member and the teeth of the ratchet ring. An O-ring is provided to maintain the position of the sutures to minimize disruption of the sutures before deployment of the sutures. In one embodiment, a stationary base of the anchor device comprises a single molded member. In another embodiment a method of manufacturing the catheter anchor device comprising welding a rotatable ring and one or more bearing members of the catheter anchor device through access bores in the stationary base.

    • Apparatus and method are disclosed by which a hollow distal end portion of a wire may be deposited at selected sites in body passageways. The apparatus includes an elongate wire (solid or hollow) having a distal end section for detachment and delivery to a target location, the wire also having a discontinuity located rearwardly of the distal end section for rupturing when vibrational energy is applied to the wire. The discontinuities may take the form of cuts formed in the wire, reduced diameter sections in the wire, adhesive, welded or soldered couplings between the wire and the distal end section, or the wire transitioning from the wire to a large mass disposed on the distal end section. A catheter is coupled to or surrounds the elongate wire to deliver therapeutic liquid to a target body location. The apparatus includes a vibrational energy source couplable to the proximal end of the wire for selectively applying vibrational energy to the wire to travel to the discontinuity and cause detachment of the end section.

    • A flexible catheter guidewire that comprises an elongate flexible core wire, a cylindrical, thin-walled hollow tube, and a coil spring. The core wire consists of a main section, a tapered section, and a flattened tip. The main section of the core wire has a predetermined uniform diameter. The tapered section of the core wire has a progressively reduced outer diameter. The flattened tip has a substantially rectangular cross-section. The flattened tip has a first end that is attached to the tapered section of the core wire and a second end. The flattened tip decreases in thickness from the first end of the flattened tip to the second end of the flattened tip. The hollow tube is disposed around the tapered section of core wire. A coil spring constructed of a radiopaque material is attached to the core wire and is disposed around the flattened tip.

    • A sealing cap is provided for attachment to the end of a syringe plunger. The sealing cap has an annular sidewall with an annular first sealing wing projecting distally therefrom, an annular second sealing wing positioned proximal of the first sealing wing and projecting proximally, and an annular sealing ridge encircling and radially projecting out from between the first sealing wing and the second sealing wing. The sealing cap further includes an interior cavity having an annular side surface aligned with the annular sidewall. A side groove is recessed within the side surface so as to be aligned slightly proximal of the annular sealing ridge. The distal end of a syringe plunger has a head mounted thereon that is substantially complementary to the configuration of the internal cavity of the sealing cap. More specifically, a tapered ridge is formed on the periphery of the head to complementarily be received within the side groove. As a positive pressure is created against the sealing cap, the first sealing wing flexes against the interior surface of the barrel and the annular sealing ridge urges against the interior surface of the barrel, thereby increasing the effective seal. As a negative pressure is formed within the barrel, the second sealing wing flexes against the interior surface of the barrel to increase the effective seal.
