    • A digital photographing apparatus and a method of controlling the same. The digital photographing apparatus includes a body unit and an exchangeable lens installed to the body unit, wherein the exchangeable lens includes: a power zoom performer for performing a power zoom operation; and an iris for adjusting an amount light penetrating through an imaging lens, the body unit includes: an image pickup device for generating an image signal by capturing the light; a shutter for controlling light exposure of the image pickup device; and a release controller for controlling operations of the shutter and the iris, and the power zoom operation is prohibited when the release controller starts to drive the shutter or the iris. Accordingly, the power zoom operation is stably controlled.

    • Focusing methods, apparatus, and computer-readable recording media having recorded thereon the focusing methods are disclosed. In an example focusing method, a focus evaluation value is divided into first information and second information. The first information represents a difference between focus evaluation values, which are obtained according to location of a focus lens, to be relatively large, and the second information represents the difference to be relatively small. Then, at least one from among the first information and the second information is provided to a user so that the user may easily and more accurately determine whether a subject is in focus.

    • An image capture device comprises a camera body held by a user for capturing an image, a display for displaying an image while captured, and a virtual image optical system for producing a virtual image of the image displayed on the display. The display is openably/closably supported by the camera body and positioned in opened/closed positions to expose or unexpose an image display surface. The optical system is contained in the camera body to produce a virtual image of the image on the display to allow the user to observe the virtual image through a viewing opening of the camera body. The user, even if presbyopic, can clearly observe an image, while captured, through the viewing opening. This device has reduced cost and improved design, and allows a user, even if presbyopic, to clearly observe an image while captured, and can prevent degradation in the quality of the observed image.

    • A film winding/rewinding mechanism of a camera driven by an ultrasonic wave motor. The winding driving section includes a cylindrical spool and a cylindrical first ultrasonic wave vibrator provided in the spool. A roller urged by a leaf spring is pressed against the peripheral surface of the spool, so that the peripheral surface of the vibrator contacts the inner surface of the spool at a point in the circumferential direction thereof. The film rewinding driving section includes a film rewinding fork, a cylindrical member mounted on the periphery of the rewinding fork, and a cylindrical second ultrasonic wave vibrator provided between the rewinding fork and the cylindrical member. The diameter of the outer circumference of the second ultrasonic wave vibrator is greater than the diameter of the outer circumference of the first vibrator. In winding/rewinding the film, the cylindrical member is urged by the tension of the film, so that the peripheral surface of the cylindrical member contacts the peripheral surface of the second vibrator contacts at a point in the circumferential direction thereof. In winding the film, a voltage is applied to the first vibrator to rotate the spool. In rewinding the film, a voltage is applied to the second vibrator to rotate the fork.
