    • A polyol composition containing a polyester polyol, at least 5 weight % of a compatibilizing agent, based on the weight of the polyol and compatibilizing agent, and a hydrocarbon blowing agent. The compatibilizing agent is one or a combination of a benzoate glycol adduct, a substituted benzoate glycol adduct, a naphthenate glycol adduct, a substituted naphthenate glycol adduct, a toluate glycol adduct, or a substituted toluate glycol adduct. The hydrocarbon blowing agent is selected from cyclopentane, isopentane, n-pentane, 2-chloropropane; 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a); 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa); and n-propylbromide, or mixtures thereof. The compatibilizing agent improves the miscibility of conventional polyester polyols with hydrocarbon blowing agents. The polyol composition can be reacted with a polyisocyanate to form a foam. Foams prepared from the mixture have superior thermal conductivity, lower flammability, and higher stability of the emulsified liquid reactants prior to polymerization.

    • The invention may be used with a boom or the like which is raised and lowered by double-acting hydraulic cylinder means provided with a pilot-actuated safety valve at its bottom such that the boom can only go down when pilot pressure (normally from the downthrust line) is applied to this safety valve. The main manual valve has a four-position spool which provides a float position reached by moving through the lowering position. As the main valve is moved to the float position, its manual actuation mechanism actuates an auxiliary valve to supply pilot pressure to the safety valve to open the safety valve to allow the cylinder to achieve the desired floating action. This pilot pressure supply is through a shuttle valve which alternatively lets pilot pressure be applied to this safety valve as here stated or, from the downthrust, without ever connecting the two sources.

    • Greater overall speed of crane operation is made possible by using a plurality of hydraulic piston-cylinder sets together with valving which can direct the pumped hydraulic fluid selectively to either of the cylinder sets or to both of them. Preferably the two cylinder sets are of different speed-load characteristics so that the same supply of pressured oil will raise the boom faster when supplied to one than when supplied to the other. When the boom must be raised with maximum load, the same oil supply will be directed to both cylinder sets, thereby giving the maximum lifting power with a given available oil pressure and the slowest raising speed. The overall time required to accomplish a given task is reduced because most of the time the boom can be raised or lowered at a faster speed than that slow speed which must be provided for handling heaviest loads. Speeds are selected by operating one or both of two handles to the up or down position, each handle controlling its own valve spool. When only one handle is moved to supply fluid under pressure, the other is moved to a "float" position. Each valve spool must therefore have a float position, but for safety an interlock prevents moving both spools to the float position simultaneously.

    • A filter device made of less expensive material than comparable filter devices heretofore has basic filter components plus some unique design aspects and an additional ring component. The ring provides an interface inside the filter which enables the potting compound to adhere to the filter and create a seal between a first and second fluid compartment within the filter. An embedded region of the ring possesses a detailed geometry which helps ensure that a delamination would be localized and unable to propagate from the first to the second compartment, maintaining the structural integrity of the filter device. To ensure that the sealing interface remains intact and free from delamination, the ring is subjected to a surface treatment, which modifies the surface energy of the ring. This modified surface energy of the ring allows the hydrophilic potting compound to more effectively bond to the modified hydrophobic ring.
