    • There is provided with an apparatus for image processing for displaying an image on a dot matrix type display device having a plurality of display elements each emitting single light, including: an image input unit configured to input an input image having pixels each including one or more color components; an image feature extraction unit configured to extract a feature of the input image; a filter processor configured to generate K subfield images by performing a filter process using K filters for the input image of one frame; a display order setting unit configured to set a display order of the K subfield images based on the feature of the input image; and an image display control unit configured to display the K subfield images in accordance with the display order on the display device in one frame period of the input image.

    • A method for generating an interpolation frame between first and second reference frames includes dividing an interpolation frame into several interpolation areas; detecting a most correlated combination from several combinations between first reference areas and second reference areas for each interpolation area; obtaining a motion vector from the first and second reference areas; determining whether the first reference areas and the second reference areas are in a high-correlated area or a low-correlated area; giving the motion vector to the motion vector detected area, the motion vector detected area corresponding to the interpolation area which is determined to be the high-correlated area in the first and second reference areas; determining a motion vector to be given to the motion vector undetected area; and generating the interpolation frame based on the motion vector given to the motion vector detected area and the motion vector determined for the motion vector undetected area.

    • An image processing apparatus calculates an absolute difference in pixel values between each pixel (target pixel) of the image and each of neighboring pixels of the target pixel, and a sum of the absolute differences with respect to the target pixel, calculates a threshold using the sum of the absolute differences with respect to the target pixel and a weight previously determined, the threshold being used as a reference for determining whether the pixel values of the neighboring pixels are used in a smoothing process for the target pixel, and performing a smoothing process by means of an edge-preserving smoothing filter, based on whether the absolute difference in pixel values between the target pixel and each of the neighboring pixels of the target pixel exceeds the threshold.

    • A smoothing filter generates a smoothed picture by smoothing a brightness component of an input picture. An adjustment filter generates an adjusted picture by applying a filter to an area of the input picture. The filter has the same characteristic as the smoothing filter. The area has a brightness matched with a predetermined condition of noise detection. A contrast component calculation unit calculates a contrast component of the input picture by dividing each pixel value of the adjusted picture with a corresponding pixel value of the smoothed picture. An output picture generation unit generates an output picture by multiplying the smoothed picture with the contrast component.
