    • A pump control apparatus is disclosed which is of a small size, quietly operates and has a small number of signal output lines without loosing the fuel pump stopping function upon engine stall. This control apparatus of the invention includes a computer 5 which provides a signal output line 9 with an off-signal that is equal to the potential of a body 7 of a vehicle upon engine stop, and which provides the signal output line 9 with a drive signal that is higher in potential than the off-signal upon engine operation. This control apparatus further includes an FET 12 which is connected in series with a power supply line 8 and a fuel pump 4 and which, when receiving the drive signal, changes the terminal voltage of the fuel pump 4 in accordance with the input drive signal, and when receiving a voltage corresponding to the off-signal, stops the fuel pump 4. Thus, according to this invention, even if the power supply line 8 and the signal output line 9 are brought to the ground potential, or grounded, the fuel pump 4 is sure to be stopped, and thus the safety can be achieved.

    • A wiper controller includes: a sensor for detecting a waterdrop on a windshield; a wiper for wiping the windshield; and control means for controlling operation of the wiper. The control means monitors a waterdrop reflection when the sensor detects the waterdrop. The waterdrop reflection is a diffuse reflection of light. The control means operates the wiper with an intermittent wiping operation having a time interval in such a manner that the time interval in a case where the control means decides nonexistence of the waterdrop reflection is set to be longer than the time interval in a case where the control means decides existence of the waterdrop reflection.

    • A photodetector having directional characteristics is obtained by arranging a photosensitive element for a solar radiation sensor, a photosensitive element for an illuminance sensor, and a light shielding part in the same package constructed by a case and an optical lens as a cap. The photosensitive element for a solar radiation sensor has two photosensitive parts which are formed apart from each other on the same plane, and outputs a detection signal according to an amount of solar radiation incident on the two photosensitive parts. The photosensitive element for an illuminance sensor is disposed apart from the two photosensitive parts in the photosensitive element for a solar radiation sensor, is formed in a region different from a border region of the two photosensitive parts, and detects illuminance above a vehicle. The light shielding part is provided above at least the border region of the two photosensitive parts.
