    • A headbox of a paper machine which is provided with a dilution profiling system which uses a feedback-connected regulation system to control the cross-direction basis weight profile of the paper web produced by the paper machine. The dilution profiling system includes a feed header for a dilution liquid or for a stock suspension of a consistency lower than the consistency in the headbox, feed ducts fill idly coupled to the dilution header and regulation valves associated with the feed ducts for the dilution liquid, whereby the dilution liquid is passed to an area between a front wall of the inlet header of the headbox and a slice duct of the headbox. In the dilution profiling system, edge feed arrangements are integrated in both lateral areas of the headbox. The edge feed arrangements include ducts by whose means it is possible to pass edge flows from the inlet header of the dilution profiling system into both of the lateral areas of the headbox, which edge flows have velocities and/or mutual velocity ratios that can be set and/or regulated. By means of the edge flows, a controlled transverse velocity component is produced in the stock suspension jet so as to control the cross-direction fiber orientation profile.

    • A multi-layer headbox for a paper or board machine including stock inlet headers each providing one stock and coupled to a tube bank which in turn is coupled to a respective intermediate chamber. The stock flows from the intermediate chambers into a turbulence generator and through pipes in the turbulence generator into a slice cone to be discharged therefrom onto a forming wire. The multi-layer headbox includes distribution valves for regulating the flow of dilution water across the width of the headbox. Each distribution valve communicates with a distribution plate placed in connection with the tube bank. From each valve, the dilution liquid is distributed at the same time to all the stocks that form the different layers of the web in the multi-layer headbox at a specific position of width of the multi-layer headbox.

    • A headbox of a paper/board machine including a set of valves, each of which is arranged to distribute a flow to a different point in the direction of width of the headbox. Each valve is capable of regulating both the flow quantity of the flow departing from the valve and the consistency of the flow departing from the valve. Further, each valve includes an input line for the stock flow and an input line for a diluting flow, which is preferably a diluting-water line, and the flows are combined in the valve. The combined flow is passed into the headbox into connection with the stock flow present in the headbox coming from a stock inlet header to be mixed therewith. The headbox includes a turbulence generator arranged after and connected to the stock inlet header in the flow direction. The turbulence generator includes turbulence tubes which open into a slice duct, preferably a slice cone, from which the stock is passed onto a forming wire. The flows are passed from the valves into the turbulence tubes in the turbulence generator so that the overall combined flow is distributed into the turbulence tubes in the turbulence generator.

    • A method and device in the regulation of a headbox. The headbox includes a pulp inlet header, after the pulp inlet header, seen in the pulp flow direction, a distributor manifold whose pipes are opened into an intermediate chamber. The headbox comprises an attenuation chamber placed in connection with the intermediate chamber and, after the intermediate chamber, a turbulence generator having tubes which are opened, at their outlet end, into a discharge duct and, at their inlet end, into the intermediate chamber. In the method, into different positions along the width of the headbox, a pulp suspension flow is introduced, the concentration of this flow is adjustable by combining two component flows. In the method, in the regulation of the concentration of the flow passed into the pulp suspension, two component flows are combined by into the pulp suspension flow introducing an additional flow. The mixing ratio of the combined flow is regulated by adjusting the additional component flow. In the method, the additional component flow is passed into the pulp flow taken out of the inlet header.

    • A method for continuous overall regulation of a former of a paper or board machine or equivalent in which a physical fluid flow model of the drainage and the flow state of the pulp suspension flow is formed. The model is solved by making use of the data on the geometry of the former and initial and boundary conditions necessary for a solution to the model. The difference between the simulated state, which has been obtained as the solution of the physical flow model, and the state adopted as the target is determined as the cost function, wherein the target state is determined by means of the quality requirements of the paper and possibly by means of the costs of operation and the runnability of the paper machine. The cost function is optimized and, thus, optimal regulation values and set values are obtained for the regulation devices and/or actuators of the former in view of the given cost function. After the optimization has been carried out in the preceding stage, the former's regulation devices and/or actuators are given new optimal regulation and set values.
