    • A MR compatible monitoring system has a fiber optic data link between the patient monitor and the control room display/keyboard in a magnetic resonance imaging suite to allow for continuous monitoring of a patient's vital signs and provides critical care patients with the same diagnostic options as stable patients. The patient monitor is mounted on the far end of a magnetic resonance compatible patient transporter. The patient transporter sends video data and receives control data from the control room. During the imaging, the patient monitor is located within the magnet room. Magnetic resonance imaging systems are very sensitive to radio frequency interference (RFI) from other equipment and may produce image artifacts because of this interference. Using a fiber optic data link between the patient monitor near the magnet and the control room will minimize the potential RFI.

    • A system for displaying selected images on a video display device is provided. One or more sources of image frames are included which sources may be digital or analog and which sources may present pixel data in different selected formats. A frame memory is provided which is adapted to store a plurality of memory frames each of which may store one or more image frames to be displayed. Image frames are selectively stored in the memory frames of the frame memory in the format in which they are received. The images may be stored in full size or may be compressed for windowing display and selected information concerning image frames may be utilized to control the mapping of values stored for the pixels of the image frames. A display frame may be formed of two or more compressed image frames with each image frame being read out from a selected memory frame which memory frame may be independent of or the same as the memory frame for other read out images. Certain images may contain two or more different types of information which may be selectively processed when read out from a frame memory to cause the content of such multiple information images to be displayed as multiple separate images containing the content of the image frame in various permutations and combinations. Color mapping using the same or different criteria may also be provided, with the color mapping being independent for each of the image frames being simultaneously displayed.

    • When monitoring a patient (32), objective data is readily collected using a vital signs monitor (VSM) (12) coupled to the patient (32) via a plurality of sensors (20). Subjective data, such as the appearance of a rash, wound or dressing, facial pallor or flush, facial expression indicative of pain, and the like, are additionally captured using an imager (22) coupled to the VSM (12). The imager (22) can be a two-dimensional barcode reader that captures a digital image of the patient (32) or portion thereof and relays the image data to the VSM (12). Images and patient vital sign data are then stored to an electronic medical record (14) and presented to a user or physician. Additionally, a standard reference color plate (30) with an optional barcode (34) can be placed on or near the patient (32), and the patient (32) and SCP (30) can be imaged. The imaged SCP (30) is then employed as a reference to perform color correction to permit a reviewing physician to evaluate the image for diagnosis.
