    • An apparatus and a method for high-speed character recognition are disclosed. The character recognition method includes receiving a bit-stream decoded base on a symbol matching encoding scheme where the bit-stream including a symbol dictionary and a symbol information which is information of symbols included in an original image; decoding the symbol dictionary included in the bit-stream; performing a character recognition process of each of plural of symbols included in the decoded symbol dictionary; decoding the symbol information after completing the character recognition process; and generating a text file of the original image by using the result of the character recognition process and the decoded symbol information.

    • A de-skew method of an image forming apparatus is provided which includes reading an image on a print medium fed through an automatic document feeder (ADF); detecting a leading edge of the print medium and calculating a skew angle of the read image; comparing the calculated skew angle to a first threshold and determining whether to perform a de-skew operation; and setting skew compensation levels based on the calculated skew angle and performing different de-skew operations according to the set skew compensation levels to output a de-skewed image when the absolute value of the calculated skew angle is equal to or greater than the first threshold.

    • A digital image processing device and method for performing edge compensation (sharpening) and emphasis. The digital image processing device and method each employ a first interpolation unit for applying a predetermined interpolation scheme with respect to low-resolution input image information, and outputting first interpolation image information; and a compensation unit for producing binary values with respect to the first interpolation image information using the input image information and the first interpolation image information, and compensating for the first interpolation image information based on the binary values.     • A binary image compression apparatus and method. The apparatus to compress a binary image includes a symbol extraction unit to extract symbols from a binary image, a symbol dictionary including a plurality of representative symbols registered therein and to register one or more of the extracted symbols when the one or more extracted symbols do not match the registered representative symbols, a symbol matching unit to perform a matching operation of the extracted symbols with the representative symbols using a plurality of thresholds to determine an index of the extracted symbols, and an encoding unit to compress symbols registered in the symbol dictionary and corresponding indexes, to compress indexes of the symbols extracted from the binary image and position information of each of the extracted symbols, and to generate a final bitstream from the compressed symbols, indexes, and position information.
