    • A housing assembly adapted to fit into a mortised recess in a door is provided for accommodating components of an electronic lock mechanism. The housing assembly comprises a housing including opposed major side walls at least partially defining an opening into the housing. A circuit board comprising electronic circuitry for operating the lock mechanism is disposed in the housing. A bracket for holding batteries is adapted to be disposed in the opening in the housing. The bracket is accessible when the housing is in the mortised recess of the door such that the bracket is movable relative to the housing between a first position and a second position. In the first position the bracket is in the housing and in the second position the bracket is at least partially outside of the housing such that batteries may be inserted into or removed from the bracket.

    • A touch bar (24) exit device (20) comprises a retractor element (50) disposed in the housing (22) for substantially restilinear movement. The retractor element (50) connects the touch bar (24) and the latch bolt (82) such that the retractor element (50) and the latch bolt (82) are moved toward the retracted position in response to movement of the touch bar (24). An electrically energizable locking mechanism (104) in the exit device (20) includes a reciprocating plunger (106) moving transverse to the retractor element (50). When energized, the locking mechanism (104) is operative to move the plunger (106) to the projected locking position to prevent retraction of the latch bolt. A time delay circuit is connected to the locking mechanism (104). A switch (120) actuated in response to movement of the touch bar (24) is connected to the time delay circuit for starting a predetermined time interval for temporarily delaying deenergization of the locking mechanism (104). When the time delay circuit interrupts power to the locking mechanism (104), the plunger (106) moves allowing the latch bolt (82) to move to the retracted position.

    • An exit alarm system housed in an escutcheon for activating upon movement of an interior latch operator. The system is mounted to the interior side of a door with a latch assembly including an interior latch operator. The system may include an alarm, a trigger, and an electronic module. The trigger is responsive to movement of the interior latch operator. The electronic module may be electrically connected to a power source for providing an input signal to the alarm. Upon motion of the interior latch operator, the trigger may cause the electronic module to send an activating input signal to the alarm. The alarm may be a sound transducer. A switch may be provide to arm the system. A tamper switch may be provided to cause the electronic module to activate the alarm upon removal of the escutcheon. The system may be applied to retrofit an existing door.

    • A lock assembly including a latchbolt that may be effectively lengthened to accommodate varied backset distances for doors. The lock assembly may include a housing, a latchbolt including an attachment member, an extension member, a retractor element, and an operator. The extension member may be mounted to the attachment member to extend from the latchbolt for effective lengthening of the latchbolt. The retractor element, operatively responsive to the operator, is disposed within the housing for linear reciprocating movement to move the latchbolt, and is selectively engageable with the attachment member or with the extension member. The extension member defines a recess adapted to receive the attachment member. A latch case may receive the latchbolt, and a cylindrical sleeve may receive the latch case and the latchbolt when the extension member is in use to increase the backset dimension.

    • A lock assembly comprises a housing and a latchbolt including an attachment member. A retractor element is disposed within the housing for linear reciprocating movement. The retractor element includes a first attachment location at a first position relative to the axis of reciprocation of the retractor element and a second attachment location at a second position relative to the axis of reciprocation of the retractor element. The second attachment location is spaced from the first attachment location by a distance along the axis of reciprocation of the retractor element. The attachment member of the latchbolt is selectively engageable with the retractor element at either the first attachment location or the second attachment location for movement together with the retractor element. An operator is operatively connected to the retractor element for facilitating selective reciprocation of the retractor element for moving the latchbolt between a latched position and an unlatched position.

    • An exit alarm system housed in an escutcheon for activating upon movement of an interior latch operator.
