    • An optical system utilizing phosphors to perform mathematical operations without the direct or necessary use of an electronic component or electrical power source is disclosed. The luminenscent and quenching properties of phosphors are combined with at least one first-order relaxation subsystem such that when the optical system achieves equilibrium, it will have performed certain mathematical operations. The precise mathematical operation to be performed is determined by controlling the materials utilized, light inputs, and certain variables within the optical system.

    • Polarization phase plate Assembly comprises at least two uniaxial crystal plates which are identical to each other in structure and dimension and a retarder plate sandwiched between the two uniaxial crystal plates. Initially the optic axes of the crystal plates are aligned to be parallel with each other. Then the plates are subsequently rotated around the normals of the plates by an equal twist angle but in opposite directions. When a beam of light is passed through the assembly post-twist, the result is high-quality fringes that are straight, smooth and capable of exhibiting close to 100% contrast. The fringes have a sinusoidal cross-fringe profile and vary in number in relation to the degree of the twist angle.

    • A fuel dispensing nozzle is disclosed and includes a main body portion containing a fuel passageway and a main valve controlling the flow of fuel through the fuel passageway. A lever extends from the body portion which is operable by the hand of a user holding the nozzle to open the main valve to allow fuel flow through the nozzle and a lever guard is attached to the body and extends around and under the lever. A hold-open clip is pivotally mounted to the lever guard. The lever includes notches which are positioned relative to the hold-open clip so that when the hold-open clip is rotated by the user into its operative position it may engage a notch in the lever and hold the lever in a position where the main valve is opened to allow fuel flow without requiring the user to continue to hold the lever. A removable lockout member is attached to the lever to prevent operation in the automatic hold-open mode by preventing engagement of the hold-open clip with a notch in the lever. The lockout member includes a retention device to prevent manual removal of the lockout member once it is attached to the lever.

    • A pallet dismantling tool having a body member, a handle, and lever extensions. The handle is mounted on the body member in angular relation to the lever extensions for forming leveraged functioning of the latter to pry off pallet deck boards when the handle is operated to rotate the body member. In one embodiment, a plurality of jaw members comprise the lever extensions and have forwardly opening slots that receive a deck board of a pallet edgewise. The jaw members are selectively arranged in number and position corresponding to that of the pallet spacers when engaging a deck board whereby to remove a deck board simultaneously from all the spacers. The jaw members are adjustable to accommodate different structures and sizes of pallets.

    • A cutter head assembly for dismantling pallets includes a cross member pivotally supported on a machine. The cross member supports one or more cutter heads thereon in forwardly projecting operational position which is freely slidable in a lateral direction. The cutter heads have an offbearing tray for portions of the pallets. The assembly of cutter heads is tiltable rearwardly on the pivot support to an upper maintenance position. Lock pins hold the cutter head assembly positively between the down operational position and the up maintenance position. The center of gravity of the cutter head assembly is at the pivot support to provide a balanced structure, and a spring loaded member is provided to urge the assembly rotatably down to its operational position. The spring loaded member also maintains the cutter head assembly in its maintenance position. A positive lock is provided between the cutter head assembly and the machine frame in both of these positions.
