    • A stylet wire assembly is disclosed which sealingly engages the proximal end of a medical catheter, and allows the unobstructed injection or evacuation of fluids into or from a patient's body through the catheter while the stylet wire is in place therein. The disclosed assembly includes a stylet wire and a housing. The housing has a catheter fluid communication port at its distal end and anchors the stylet wire into its closed proximal end with the stylet wire extending through the catheter fluid communication port at the distal end of the housing. This anchoring is accomplished by means of a plug which has been injection molded about the crimped proximal end of the stylet wire and bonded to the distal end of the remainder of the housing. An external fluid communication port allows for fluid communication into and out of said housing in transverse orientation relative to the axis of said stylet wire within said housing and distally of the anchoring of the stylet wire into the proximal end of the housing. The distal end of the housing sealingly engages the proximal end of a medical catheter in fluid communication between the catheter fluid communication port of the housing and the fluid conduit of the catheter by means of the combined effect of a female threaded portion which advances over the end of the catheter and an inner sealing tubular portion which advances within the fluid conduit of the catheter. A fluid conduit provides fluid communication within the housing between the catheter fluid communication port and the external fluid communication port. Upon removal of the stylet wire assembly, the proximal end of the medical catheter can be connected directly to an infusion/evacuation tube without the need for sealing the second port of the standardly used T-fitting.

    • A stent introducer apparatus includes a handle having a housing and a rotatable reel. An inner stent carrier having a proximal end and a distal end is provided, with the proximal end being connected to the housing of the handle. An outer sheath movably disposed about the inner stent carrier and having a proximal end and a distal end is provided, with the proximal end being connected to the reel of the handle. Rotation of the reel relative to the housing peels the outer sheath away from the inner stent carrier so as to move the outer sheath proximally relative to the inner stent carrier, thereby exposing the distal end of the inner stent carrier. The inner stent carrier has a stent carrying portion at its distal end to carry a stent that is deployed when the distal end of the inner stent carrier is exposed.

    • A peel-away endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography catheter and a method for using the same is provided. An endoscope having a passage therethrough is introduced into the mouth of a patient and is guided through the patent's gastroentral tract until an opening at the distal end of the endoscope is in close proximity with the papilla of vater leading to the common bile and pancreatic ducts. A peel-away ERCP catheter is provided which may be guided through the lumen of the endoscope until the distal tip of the catheter emerges from the opening at the distal end of the endoscope. The distal end of the catheter may be guided through the sphincter of oddi and into the common bile or pancreatic duct. A radiopaque dye may be injected through the catheter, into the duct. Additionally, a guide wire may be guided into the common bile or pancreatic duct through the catheter. Thereafter, the catheter may be easily removed without disturbing the placement of the guide wire by pulling on knobs attached to tabs at the proximal end of the catheter while the proximal end of the guide wire is held in place. The force applied to the catheter tabs causes the catheter to split longitudinally along two longitudinal grooves cut into the body of the catheter. Thus, the catheter peels-away from the guide wire without displacing the guide wire. Simultaneously, the pulling force on the tabs splits the catheter away from the guide wire while pulling the catheter up the guide wire. Additionally, a biliary stent can be pushed into the duct using a second peel-away catheter which may then be removed in accordance with the method of the present invention.

    • A method and device for incising tissue from the gastrointestinal tract are described. The device is an electrosurgical cutting device. The electrosurgical cutting device includes a catheter and multiple electrically conductive cutting wires extending through a lumen of the catheter. The wires are movable between a retracted position and an extended cutting position. The wires form a divergent configuration in the extended cutting position. The electrosurgical cutting device may be loaded into an endoscope, which is then maneuvered to the target tissue site to be incised. Manipulating a handle assembly extends the wires into a divergent cutting configuration. Electrical current is applied causing the wires to incise tissue from the target site.

    • A clip device for hemostasis includes a clip having a proximal end portion and at least two arm portions extending from the proximal end portion and provided with a tendency to open. A sliding ring is provided for closing the arm portions of the clip. A first retainer is attached to the clip, and the first retainer is configured to be releasably secured to a second retainer that may be attached to an operating wire or a torque cable. In operation, the clip device is advanced to a target site in a body cavity. An outer sheath is retracted to expose the clip, causing the arms to open. An inner sheath is advanced distally, causing the sliding ring to advance distally to close the arms of the clip. Stop elements may be disposed on the clip to ensure that he sliding ring is not advanced distally over the clip. Then, the first retainer is disengaged from the second retainer. Various mechanisms are disclosed to permit the first and second retainers to disengage from one another. The first retainer, attached to the clip, is left inside the patient's body cavity, while the second retainer is removed from the patient.
