摘要： A method of joining two components utilizes a fibrous preform at the joint. The preform has two lateral portions and a longitudinally extending flow path. The preform is sandwiched between the two components and enclosed within a vacuum bag. Resin is introduced at an inlet of the flowpath while a vacuum pump creates a suction at an outlet end and along the lateral side edges. The flow path has greater permeability than the remaining portions of the preform, causing the resin to flow to the outlet end. When the resin reaches the outlet end, the suction at the outlet end is reduced, but the suction at the lateral edges remains without reduction to cause the resin to flow laterally into the preform.

摘要： A method for fabricating fiber reinforced plastic structures includes a mold surface upon which can be supported a lay-up of one or more layers of a fibrous material, and over which can be placed a fluid impervious outer sheet with an inlet port and having its edges marginally sealed upon the mold surface to form a chamber. A vacuum outlet is connected to the chamber for drawing a vacuum there from. A resin distribution system is positioned between the lay-up and the fluid impervious sheet. The resin distribution system includes a resin distribution medium for receiving resin from the inlet port and a resin containment layer between the resin distribution medium and lay-up for preventing resin flowing from the resin distribution medium into the lay-up until the resin distribution medium is substantially filled with resin.

摘要： A composite cord assembly is used to fabricate high performance structures. In one form the cord assembly is composed of an inner composition of structural fibrous material and an external cladding. Resin is impregnated into the fibrous material. The external cladding functions as a containment device for liquid resin material during the fabrication of structural parts. The cured resin surrounds the fibrous material, and provides support to the fibers, as well as load transfers between the fibers. In addition, the cord assembly may contain an inner core and other enhancements to promote resin flow through the assembly during the resin infusion/injection process used for part fabrication. Applications for composite cord assemblies of this type include composite coil springs, structural fencing, golf club shafts, fishing rods, and other products composed of structural rods and tubes of simple or complex shapes.
