    • An automated method for calibrating in real time a diagnostic analyzer includes the steps of receiving diagnostic results of patient samples calculated by the analyzer using pre-set parameters of the analyzer, and calculating the centroid of the analyzer's diagnostic results. The centroid of the analyzer's diagnostic results is subtracted from a centroid of diagnostic results of a field population of comparable analyzers to obtain a bias in the centroid of the analyzer's diagnostic results. The bias is compared to predetermined limits. Should the bias fall outside the predetermined limits, an optimization factor is derived and applied to the analyzer's diagnostic results to obtain optimized results from the analyzer without changing the pre-set parameters of the analyzer.

    • A device for finishing workpieces, such as automobile wheels. The device includes a bowl assembly containing polishing media therein, and a drive assembly including a rotatable turret which carries the wheels thereon so that same are orbitally driven through the polishing media. A cam arrangement is provided which essentially continuously adjusts the angle of the wheels relative to the polishing media by pivoting the wheels about respective vertical axes. The device is additionally provided with a vertical drive assembly which allows vertical oscillation of the wheels relative to the media, and the polishing device also permits adjustment of the pitch or rake angle of the wheels relative to the horizontal.

    • A method to track stability and performance of diagnostic instrumentation, especially for veterinary automated hematology analyzers, applies a weighted moving averages algorithm to the diagnostic results of patient samples calculated by the analyzer. Control chart rules are used to set limits or ranges in order to determine if weighted averaged diagnostic results are within or outside of such limits or ranges. If the weighted average diagnostic results are outside of such control chart rule limits, then fuzzy logic and a gradient descent algorithm are applied to the weighted averaged diagnostic results.

    • A sensor system that monitors agent breakthrough through a vapor barrier and related test process. The system includes a substantially airtight test chamber for retaining the vapor barrier, which may be formed of one or more layers of one or more materials. A sensor element array placed adjacent to the barrier under test includes elements that are sensitive to one or more agents of interest and elements that are insensitive to such agents. The insensitive elements provide a baseline reference signal that is compared to the output signal of the sensitive elements. As the agent contacts the array, the electrical signal output from the sensitive elements changes in comparison to that of the reference elements. The sensor array is sensitive enough to detect low levels of the agent when the agent passes through the barrier. A control system is used to regulate and monitor environmental conditions within the chamber and to process electrical signals from the sensor array.
