    • The present invention enables eye contact between conferees during a teleconference using a terminal equipped with a beam-splitter. The camera is positioned behind the viewing side of the beam-splitter to capture the conferee's image through the beam-splitter. The reflection of the video display appears to be positioned in a room environment with common room objects, serving to associate the position of the reflection in the room environment. The transparent quality of the beamsplitter is used not only for capturing eye contact images from one direction, but also revealing the room environment by enabling the conferee to see-through the beamsplitter. The invention can be configured to create the appearance that a life-size teleconference image of a remote conferee appears in the same room as the local conferee viewing the reflection and appears to be sitting on the other side of the desk

    • An improved desktop projection display system which effectively utilizes desk top space by producing an image that appears to be at the rear edge of the desk. The display is compact because it uses a transparent-reflective panel (i.e., beamsplitter) to reflect a screen image through the same space occupied by the projection beam. This is achieved by projecting through a transparent-reflective panel, angled at approximately 45 degrees to the projection beam, onto a front projection screen located on the desk surface. An image formed on the front projection screen is then reflected by the transparent-reflective panel creating the appearance to the observer that the reflected front projection screen is positioned toward the rear of the desk surface. This invention greatly improves desktop display ergonomics for large display viewing by providing a sufficient distance between the observer seated at a desk and the display image. It is also possible to position a camera behind the transparent-reflective panel at the apparent position of the reflected screen image thus ensuring teleconferencing eye contact. The present invention, though ideal for desk top use, may also be incorporated into devices such as laptop computers or configured in kiosks or used in a manner similar to big screen projection televisions.

    • Enterprise communication display systems enable life-like images for videoconferencing and entertainment productions. Life-like images appear in a 3D environment where imaged people are visible through specially configured see-through displays. Imaged people can be viewed amongst a reflected foreground. Methods for enterprise-wide deployments for corporate, healthcare, education, theater which includes cinema and government communications, including hotel properties and a property management system are shown. Direct projection see-through screen configurations are created that eliminate unwanted secondary images in the room, conceal exposed projector lenses, reduce lens flare, makes practical multi-use room installations, images conferees among a room environment, enables touch screen interactivity, and utilizes extreme and other types of short throw projectors to reduce cost and bulk of common throw projectors. Of these transparent screens inventive configurations of substantially invisible mesh screens for both front and rear projection are described. Further, transparent LCDs are inventively configured to enable imaged life-size persons for videoconferencing in numerous configurations including with the light source removed from the LCD and placed away from the imaged persons. Further, display and camera configurations are revealed that improves the videoconferencing experience.

    • The present invention enables eye contact between conferees during a teleconference using a terminal equipped with a beamsplitter for reflecting an image of a video display so that only the reflection and not a direct view of the display is seen by the conferee. The camera is positioned behind the viewing side of the beamsplitter to capture the conferee's image through the beamsplitter. The direct view of the display is blocked by an image blocking film applied between the beamsplitter and the display. Blocking the direct view of the video display greatly improves teleconferencing by eliminating the distraction of simultaneously viewing both the video display and the reflection of the display. The present invention also substantially improves available desktop space, functional options by providing a direct view and a reflected view of the display, and portability. Also, the present invention is an integrated device operating as a fully functional personal computer with a module bay which receives a videoconferencing module to enable a videoconference. The integrated terminal is also uniquely configured for both a single user mode and a group videoconferencing mode.
