    • An insertion device and insertion set. The insertion device for inserting at least a portion of at least one piercing member of an insertion set through the skin of a patient includes a device housing, a carrier body and a driver. The carrier body is slidably received within the device housing for movement between an advanced position and a retracted position. The carrier body also includes a receiving structure to support the insertion set in a position with the at least one piercing member oriented for insertion through the skin of the patient at a predetermined angle relative to the skin of the patient upon movement of the carrier body from the retracted position to the advanced position. The driver is operatively coupled between the device housing and the carrier body to urge the carrier body with a controlled force and speed from the retracted position toward the advanced position to place at least a portion of the at least one piercing member of the insertion set thorough the skin of the patient to install the insertion set to the patient. The receiving structure of the carrier body is removable from the insertion set while maintaining the installation of the insertion set to the patient.

    • A mounting clip is provided for removable mounting of a medication infusion pump of the type used to deliver a selected medication such as insulin to a patient. In the preferred form, the mounting clip comprises a belt clip with a pair of pivotally interconnected and spring-loaded legs adapted for mounting onto a belt or other item of clothing worn by a patient. One leg of the belt clip includes a dovetail key for slide-fit reception into a mating dovetail slot formed in the housing of a medication infusion pump. A detent button is carried on the belt clip at the distal end of a spring arm for snap-fit reception into a detent seat formed in the pump housing, to lock the pump onto the belt clip. The spring arm is manually accessible to permit fingertip retraction of the detent button from the seat, and thereby permit easy sliding removal of the pump housing from the belt clip.

    • A protective case is provided for receiving and supporting a medication infusion pump of the type used to deliver a selected medication such as insulin to a patient. The protective case comprises a transparent housing of impact resistant material for slide-fit reception of the pump, in combination with a seal cap for removable mounting onto the housing to define a substantially waterproof pump enclosure. The seal cap is formed from a resilient shock absorbing material and cooperates with additional shock absorber elements to resiliently support the pump within the housing. A catheter port is formed in the seal cap for sealed passage of a catheter tube extending from the pump to the patient. A belt clip is removably mounted onto the assembled case to prevent seal cap separation from the housing, and to provide a convenient structure for belt mounting of the protective case onto the body of patient.

    • A system for infusing liquid to a body includes an infusion device, a network interface with a cell phone and wireless link and a network server system capable of communication with the infusion device through the network interface. The server system has access to a file of information specific to the controller for the infusion device. The infusion device includes a source of infusion fluid, a delivery port, a pump between the source of infusion fluid and the delivery port and a controller capable of programmable pump rate and sequence. A method for infusing liquid to a body includes controlling infusion using a programmable controller, establishing a file of information specific to the controller accessible to an extended area network server system and remotely transmitting commands to the controller. The information specific to the controller in the file is amended from a control terminal remote from the body. Operating instructions responsive to the updated information in the file are provided over an extended area network to a programmable two-way communication device. The device is capable of communication with the controller to forward operating commands. Requests for a bolus or a basal rate change are made through input to the two-way communication device which responds with commands transmitted over the wireless link to the controller consistent with the operating instructions from the server system. Network access through a monitoring terminal to the incidents of amending information specific to the controller is used for generating payments for the incidents of amending information specific to the controller accessed by the monitoring terminal.

    • A system for delivery of therapeutic and/or diagnostic agents into a living body includes a port assembly having a cannula extending from the mounting side, a port opening away from the mounting side and a resilient barrier between the port and the cannula. An access hub includes a connector positionable at the port for opening the resilient barrier. The access hub is movable in the port assembly, is engaged therewith through a resilient ring coupling and forms a seal with the resilient barrier, reducing the amount of volume to be primed. Inserters, both disposable and reusable, include the cannula insertion member as part of the assembly. A spring loaded port driver is operatively mounted within the housing with movement controlled by a latch. The driver includes a seat for receipt of a port assembly. The cannula insertion member is nonremovably fixed in a socket in the port driver in the disposable assembly. In the reusable inserter, the cannula insertion member is slidably mounted within a socket associated with the latch. Slidable movement is limited by locking shoulders. The socket is split and may be splayed to release the cannula insertion member following use.

    • An infusion device having a housing with a reusable control portion and an expendable reservoir portion includes a precise drive for an infusion pump. The drive includes a piezoelectric bender assembly, a limiter and at least one contact stop. A rigid cannula extends from the base through the port. The rigid cannula has a diameter smaller than the smaller diameter of the port, and the first length of the port has an annular open gap for lateral or pivotal movement of the rigid cannula. A mount of elastomeric material in the length having the larger diameter mounts the rigid cannula. The cannula includes hydrogel material in a desiccated state coating the surface of the cannula, including the beveled end, which rehydrates upon placement in the patient.
