    • A printing apparatus 10 exposes an image onto a photosensitive medium 14, having a printhead 20 with a linear array of exposure sources 40, each exposure source 12 operable at a variable intensity. A shuttle mechanism 16 moves the printhead 20 over the photosensitive medium 14 in a reciprocating motion between one end of a carriage assembly 72 and the other. An encoder 38 is coupled to the shuttle mechanism (16) for providing an index encoder pulse 60 at each of a plurality of increments of position of the shuttle mechanism 16 along the carriage assembly 72. Exposure control logic calculates a shuttle velocity according to index signal timing and adjusts the variable intensity of each exposure source 12 according to the shuttle velocity.

    • Embodiments of secondary backscatter indicia; digital radiography detectors and radiographic imaging apparatus using the same; and methods for using the same can detect a secondary backscatter condition for a radiation exposure. In one embodiment, a DR detector can include a housing having first and second surfaces and a plurality of walls to form a cavity; a detector array mounted within the cavity to form an electronic radiographic image; and backscatter absorbing indicia distributed in a prescribed arrangement. Embodiments of methods and/or apparatus according to the application can detect secondary backscatter radiation, can notify a technician when secondary backscatter radiation is detected in an x-ray image or can detect and/or identify portions of an active imaging area of an x-ray detector subjected to secondary backscatter radiation.

    • A fundus camera (10) obtains a retinal image using a light source (62), a ring aperture (58) conjugate to the cornea, and a first aperture (54) conjugate to the iris. An apertured mirror (52) redirects the ring illumination toward the eye. An objective lens (50) between the apertured mirror (52) and the eye has an entrance pupil between the iris and the cornea of the eye. The objective lens (50) directs the ring illumination into the pupil of the eye and directs a reflected image-bearing light from the retina through the apertured mirror (52). A second aperture (64), conjugate to a plane between the cornea and the iris of the eye, forms an aperture stop for the reflected image-bearing light. A third aperture (68) is conjugate to the cornea for blocking light reflected. A sensor (70) provides an image of the retina.

    • A film scanner is disclosed including an image sensor moveable to a scan position for scanning image frames of an elongated film having a series of edge perforations including a reference perforation for each image frame. The film scanner further includes an intermittent film transport mechanism for moving an image frame to a scanning position, and a sensor transport assembly mounted relative to the intermittent film transport mechanism and moveable in hop and weave directions. The sensor transport assembly includes a structure for mounting the image sensor for movement in the hop and weave directions, a detector mounted relative to the image sensor for detecting the reference perforation and for producing hop and weave signals, and circuitry responsive to the hop and weave signals to move the sensor transport assembly in the hop and weave directions to align the detector over the reference perforation, so that the image sensor is aligned with the image frame so that the image frame can be scanned.
