    • A safety valve apparatus has a housing with a bore and a projection disposed in the bore. A locking dog disposed on the housing is movable to engage an inner conduit wall surrounding the housing, and a flapper rotatably disposed on the housing is movable between opened and closed positions. A first sleeve disposed within the bore above the projection is mechanically movable between locked positions. In one locked position, the sleeve moves the locking dog to engage the wall. A piston disposed in the housing hydraulically communicates with a port in the projection and couples to a second sleeve disposed within the bore below the projection. The second sleeve conceals the piston and is hydraulically movable to open and close the flapper.

    • An apparatus for automatically closing a bottom safety valve in a pumped oil well in case of a cessation of pumping, and reopening the valve when pumping resumes. A conventional valve pump is installed in the production tube. A channel, which is connected to the production tube, passes through the valve body, and is blocked by a controllable flap. The valve body also contains a second channel, the two channels communicating by means of a cavity which is located upstream of the flap. A push rod slidably retained in the second channel is actuated by a piston for opening and closing the flap. A conduit connects the downstream portion of the production tube to an admission chamber and thereby transmits pressure to the piston; such that, when the downstream pressure of the valve pump is greater than that at the bottom of the well, the flap remains open; and when the difference in the pressures is reversed, the push rod causes the flap to close.

    • Methods and apparatus for sealing a safety valve within a tubular that the safety valve is designed to be landed and set in are disclosed. The valve includes a seal assembly having a seal on the valve that is acted on by a first piston disposed on a first side of the seal and/or a second piston disposed on a second side of the seal. Wellbore fluid pressure acts on the first piston when the valve is closed, thereby moving the first piston to force the seal into sealing contact with an inside surface of the tubular. When the safety valve is actuated open, fluid pressure from a control line acts on the second piston and moves the second piston to force the seal into sealing contact with the inside surface of the tubular. The seal may include a plurality of chevron seals on each side of a sealing element.

The spring being mounted around the slide between a bushing (20) and a ring nut (19) for eliminating any danger of relaxation of the spring during disassembly.
