    • The invention relates to a spreader for use on a delivery tube of a seeding tool. The spreader is mounted for adjustable positioning in the product stream providing a selectable width of product scatter. The invention preferably includes a tapered deflecting surface with a convex laterally angled surfaces for achieving an even scatter pattern, especially over the varying scatter widths. The deflecting surface is pivoted or advanced into the product stream to change the breadth of surface struck by the product as a result causing different scatter patterns. In a preferred embodiment the spreader includes a channel for mounting onto the delivery tube with a pivot pin pivotally securing it adjacent the outlet and selectively adjustable securing points for angular adjustment. The spreading deflecting surface is separated from the outlet in the direction of product stream so that deflected product is not shielded by the delivery tube. A forwardly facing leading edge of a tapered spreading surface is directed into the product stream preferably between 15-30 degrees to the stream at approximately 65 degrees to the horizontal to deflect product forwardly and laterally in an even pattern.

    • The farm implement for distributing particles such as seeds or granular fertilizers has an apparatus for splitting a single particle-entraining air stream into a plurality of individual streams containing uniform and randomly divided quantities of particles. The apparatus has a horizontally disposed corrugated pipe in downstream communication with the conduit for providing a uniform flow of particles to a horizontally disposed, tubular, stream splitting distribution body. The distribution body has a transition section that progressively and symmetrically changes in a downstream direction from a circular configuration toward a generally flat, rectangular configuration, a generally flat transfer section that leads from the transition section and spreads symmetrically laterally outwardly in a downstream direction, and a single layer of generally horizontally disposed outlet tubes at the downstream end of the transfer section. The distribution body flattens and widens the stream from a generally circular in crosssection stream entering the circular inlet to a generally shallow and wide uniformly distributed stream that flows into the entry apertures of the layer of outlet tubes wherein the stream is apportioned among the apertures into a series of substantially identical smaller streams.

    • An agricultural implement useful to prepare the ground before or after a seeding operation includes a number of soil packer units which are directly coupled to transversely extending tool bars or frame members ahead of respective, trailing harrow sections. The packer units are connected to the frame members by relatively short links for free up and down shifting movement during advancement of the implement across the field in substantial independence of vertical movement of the harrow sections. The frame members are pivotal about a parallel, horizontal axis to raise the harrow sections and the packer units to an upright orientation for transport, at which time a portion of the links supporting the packer units comes into firm, resting contact with a stop for precluding further movement of the packer units. The relatively heavy packer units are located in proximal relation to the axis of pivotal movement of the frame members, to thereby reduce stresses imposed on the structural components of the implement and reduce the size and cost of the hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly for raising or lowering the harrow sections and packer units. In use, the trailing harrow sections smooth the compacted ground and function to reduce water and wind erosion, enhance soil moisture retention and leave weeds on top of the ground to prevent further growth of the same.
