    • A recirculating air heater for an oven is fired by a burner and connected with the oven by a return air duct and an outlet duct. The return air duct has two sets of louvers for admitting controlled amounts of return air to a combustion chamber and a burner bypass chamber in the oven. The combustion gases and return air in the combustion chamber are mixed and directed through a catalytic converter before being mixed with the return air in the burner bypass chamber and directed back into the oven. A portion of the gases directed through the catalytic converter are discharged to atmosphere and an equal amount of preheated fresh air is admitted to the heater. The inlet and exhaust ducts are provided with blowers and dampers so that the mass flow rates of fresh air and exhaust air are substantially equal. During oven preheating some of the combustion gases and heated return air are caused to bypass the catalytic converter and flow directly back into the oven.

    • An indirect heater for heating air to be used for drying, curing or heating having an enclosure housing a circulation fan, filter bank, heat exchanger module and a burner. The heat exchanger has a bundle of tubes received between a pair of spaced apart headers. A cylindrical burner tube extends through one header and the tube bundle and opens into the other header. The burner flame and gaseous combustion products are discharged into a replaceable sacrificial sleeve that is telescopically received in the burner tube. A fan recirculates the heated gases through the interior of the sleeve, burner tube and the tubes of the bundle to increase heat transfer to the exterior air. The enclosure has a base, two pairs of opposed sidewalls and a top wall overlying the sidewalls. Each sidewall has an inner skin, a framework of trusses, an outer skin and insulation between the skins. The inner skin consists of airtightly joined skin panels supported by the frame and which have expansion gaps between adjoining skin panels to permit thermal expansion and contraction. The outer skin has interlocking panels held in place without contacting directly the frame or inner skin for minimizing heat transmission through each sidewall.

    • A cylindrical tube is open at both ends but divided into two portions by a barrier having an aperture therein. Side branches are connected to the tube either side of the barrier respectively, the side branches leading to a pressure transducer for deriving an airspeed indication. One open end of the tube is arranged to face into an airflow so that a pressure difference exists between the two portions, the pressure difference being measured by the pressure transducer through side branches. The barrier may have no aperture, the portions then being connected by a restricted passage disposed between the sides of the portions or between the side branches. The outside air temperature may be derived by the provision of a resistive element within the restricted passage.

    • A releasable and gas tight sealing apparatus for construction panels of a paint baking oven which relieves the buildup of gas pressure within the oven in the event of an explosion. The apparatus has tongue and groove members and a compressible cord rope received in the groove members. In assembly and during normal use of the oven, the tongue is received in the groove and bears on and compresses the cord rope to provide a gas tight seal. In the event of an explosion, the construction panels are forced outwardly which disengages the tongue and groove members and relieves the buildup of gas pressure in the oven.
