    • A method for calibrating a power tool having a roller, a driver and a solenoid. The solenoid has a body and a rod and is coupled to the roller so as to be capable of selectively advancing the roller toward the driver. The method includes: locating the roller onto a predetermined portion of the driver; moving the body of the solenoid in a first direction until the occurrence of a first predetermined condition, the first direction being in a direction that causes the roller to be driven toward the driver; after the occurrence of the first predetermined condition, moving the body of the solenoid in a second direction opposite the first direction until the occurrence of a second predetermined condition and thereafter securing the body of the solenoid to inhibit further movement of the body of the solenoid.

    • A method for controlling a driving tool having a power source, a driver, an actuator, a follower, and a control unit. The power source includes a motor and a flywheel that is driven by the motor. The actuator is configured to selectively move the follower to push the driver into frictional engagement with a surface of the flywheel. The control unit is configured to selectively activate the electric motor and the actuator. The control unit includes a speed sensor that is configured to sense a rotational speed of an element of the power source and produce a speed signal in response thereto. The method includes: directly determining a rotational speed of an element in the power source; controlling electrical power provided to the motor based on the rotational speed of the element in the power source to cause the flywheel to rotate at a predetermined speed; and actuating the actuator when a set of actuating criteria has been met, the set of actuating criteria not including a rotational speed of the element.

    • A driving tool that includes a frame, a motor assembly and a resilient member. The motor assembly is coupled to the frame and includes an electric motor, a flywheel driven by the electric motor, a pinch roller and a driver disposed between the flywheel and the pinch roller. The pinch roller is selectively movable from a first position to a second position to drive the driver into engagement with the flywheel. The driver is movable between a returned position and an extended position. The resilient member is coupled to the frame and biases the driver away from the flywheel to reduce or eliminate contact between the flywheel and the driver when the flywheel is at rest, the driver is in the returned position and the pinch roller is in the first position. A method for operating a driving tool is also provided.

    • A fastening tool can include a housing and a motor assembly in the housing. The motor assembly can include an output member and a motor for translating the output member. A contact trip assembly can include a contact trip slidably disposed relative to the housing between an advanced position and a retracted position. The contact trip assembly can be operable to activate a contact trip switch in the retracted position. A lock-out mechanism can include a paddle rotatably fixed relative to the housing between a disengaged position wherein the contact trip is permitted to slide between the advanced and retracted position and an engaged position wherein the contact trip abuts the paddle thereby precluding movement of the contact trip to the advanced position.

The driver has a plurality of bumper tabs, each of the bumper tabs having an arcuate first contact surface that is formed about a tab axis, each tab axis being generally perpendicular to a translation axis about which the driver translates. The motor assembly is coupled to the structure and configured to selectively translate the driver along the translation axis. The bumper abuts the structure and includes a plurality of bumper members. Each bumper member is located in-line with an associated one of the bumper tabs and includes an arcuate second contact surface that is formed about an axis that is generally orthogonal to the translation axis and the tab axis.
