    • An electric connector is provided which can enhance a mounting density on a printed circuit board, and improve tail protection during transportation. An electric connector (1) of the present device includes a housing (2) which is molded out of an electric insulating material and has a lower face facing a printed circuit board B when being mounted on the printed circuit board and an upper face situated opposite to the lower face, a plurality of terminals (4) as an electric contact, which are retained at predetermined intervals along the longitudinal direction of the housing (2) and each have a tail portion 6 projecting from the lower face of the housing (2) and soldered to the printed circuit board B, and a retaining member (12) which is fitted on both sides in the longitudinal direction of the housing (2) and holds down the housing (2) on the printed circuit board B from its top by being soldered to the printed circuit board B.

    • The differences in length of conductor portions which arise due to differing levels in a two level type electric connector, that is, errors in the impedance characteristics, are improved. The multiple level type electric connector of the present invention is characterized by being provided with a plurality of levels of rows of electric contacts aligned on a same surface, stacked in a direction perpendicular to the aforementioned surfaces, each electric contact row containing electric contacts for signals and electric contacts for grounding, each of the electric contacts for signals contained in each of the electric contact rows having a free end located on a first plane differing for each level, and a leg portion extending downwards from said first plane and leading to a same second plane, and each of the electric contacts for grounding contained in each of the electric contact rows having a free end located on a first plane, and a leg portion extending downwards from said first plane and leading to a same second plane connected to a grounding line, and being provided with a shield portion connected to a grounding line, and at least partially covering the leg portions of the aforementioned electric contacts.

    • A connector which is capable of reliably shielding a connection subject article inserted in a housing from electro-magnetic waves and which can be easily produced in two types, one for inserting a connection subject article in one vertical direction and the other for inserting it in another direction. Since a ground shell (30) is formed to cover the upper and lower surfaces and opposite side surfaces of a housing (10), a cable (1) in the housing (10) can be electrically shielded in any of the directions of the upper surface, lower surface and opposite side surfaces of the housing (10), thus greatly improving the electromagnetic interference prevention effect.
