    • The invention relates to a safety unit for an electric 3-phase circuit for use in, for example, an electric motor. The safety unit comprises three semi-conducting components (1, 2, 3) each of which has a first terminal (4, 6, 8) and a second terminal (5, 7, 9). The safety unit also comprises a support (10) having three contact pins (11, 12, 13) as well as an insertive module (14). The components are secured to the support and electrically contact one of the contact pins (11, 12, 13) via the first terminals (4, 6, 8). Desired electric interconnections between the terminals are established by means of the insertive module (14) via receptive apertures in the support. Such a safety unit exhibits a great sturdiness and a high electrical safety. In addition, the use of specially constructed insertive modules enables a "star" configuration to be converted into a "delta" configuration, and conversely, in a simple manner.

    • A method of providing an electrical component with surface-mountable metallic terminals, the component comprising two substantially parallel faces (S.sub.1, S.sub.2) with which electrical contact can be made, the perpendicular separation of these faces (S.sub.1, S.sub.2) having a value t, which method comprises the following steps:(a) Providing a substantially planar lead-frame in which an open area is framed by metallic strips, the open area containing a first peninsular protrusion and a second peninsular protrusion which emerge from oppositely located strips, the first protrusion emerging as a stub and then bifurcating into two arms, the second protrusion emerging as a stub and then continuing as a single arm which extends between the two arms of the first protrusion;(b) Bending a step into the second protrusion, so that part of its stub remains within the plane P.sub.0 of the strips but that part of its single arm is displaced into a plane P.sub.2 substantially parallel to P.sub.0 ;(c) Bending a step into the first protrusion, so that part of its stub remains within the plane P.sub.0 of the strips but that part of each of the two arms is displaced into a plane P.sub.1 substantially parallel to P.sub.0, whereby P.sub.2 is located between P.sub.0 and P.sub.1 and the perpendicular separation of P.sub.1 and P.sub.2 is approximately equal to t;(d) Fixing the component between the planes P.sub.1 and P.sub.2 so that the two arms of the first protrusion are affixed to face S.sub.1 and the single arm of the second protrusion is affixed to face S.sub.2 ;(e) Cutting the stubs of each of the protrusions away from the adjoining strips.
