    • A sheet-conveying drum for use between units in a printing machine is provided with a plurality of gripper bridges arranged substantially circumferentially symmetrically on the drum surface. The gripper bridges hold the paper on the drum and include gripper impact strips that are adjustable substantially radially relative to the drum in order to accommodate printing materials of different thickness. Each gripper impact strip is adjusted by means of a positioning device that is arranged on the drum radially inward of the gripper impact strip and mounted so that it can move axially relative to the drum and cam the gripper impact strip radially. The axial movement of the positioning devices is brought about by two actuating devices which are mounted opposite each other on the side frames of the printing machine. The actuating devices are preferably pneumatic cylinders and are adapted so that when they are extended they periodically engage adapters on the free ends of the positioning devices as the drum rotates. When the extended actuating device engages the adaptor the actuating device cams the positioning devices in the axial direction thereby causing the gripper impact strips to move in the radial direction.

    • A pregripper for transferring sheets from a sheet feeder to a feed drum or impression cylinder of a printing machine is provided. The pregripper is disposed below the sheet feeder and includes a hollow tube which has a substantially pear-shaped cross-section. The pear-shaped cross-section is defined by a first apex having a greater curvature and a second apex having a lesser curvature relative to the first apex. The hollow tube also has an exterior wall having a thickness that increases as the wall extends from the first apex to the second apex. A web which supports a conventional gripper bridge is attached to the hollow tube adjacent the first apex. The hollow tube is rotatably supported on each end by a journal such that the axis of rotation of the hollow tube is substantially concentric with the center of curvature of the second apex. In an alternative embodiment, the hollow tube has a plurality of openings extending therethrough substantially in the transverse direction which are adapted to prevent the build-up of a dynamic air pressure between the sheets and the pregripper.

The gripper holder has a depression running parallel to the gripper shaft connecting to the lower edge of a web on the gripper finger in a releasably positive-locking manner. The gripper tip has a raised holding surface which has tapering radii on its periphery.

    • The invention relates to a process and apparatus for treating biogenic residues, particularly sludges, preferably in the area of a clarification plant. Biogenic residues with a variable dry substance are subjected to aerobic drying until an energy-independent thermal treatment can be carried out. During the drying process, evaporated water is discharged in an odor-free condition without releasing freely volatile components, the dried sludge is intermediately stored a number of times and then utilized in preferably a number of successive thermal treatment steps. The two-stage cleaning of the stream of waste gas includes a dust collection unit and an adsorption unit. The waste heat is recycled through a heat exchanger to generate heat and electricity. The apparatus for carrying out the process includes a wet sludge storage container (1), a low temperature drying system (2), storage containers (3, 5) for intermediate storage of the dried biogenic residues, and a thermal treatment system with one or more thermal treatment steps (7, 8). Cleaning of the flue gas takes place preferably by means of a primary cleaning step (10) and a secondary cleaning step (11) for adsorption, for example, with clarified water. Energy recovery (9) from the hot waste gas is ideally carried out before the flue gas cleaning.
