    • A method and apparatus for delivering a uniform supply of toner to a development zone in an electrostatographic system is disclosed. Additional toner control in the form of magnets located near the donor member attract toner to the toner pick-up area and insure that a constant supply of toner reaches the development zone. The additional control of toner is especially useful when the supply of toner to the toner pick-up area is limited or the toner does not naturally flow to the toner pick-up area.. The toner supply is enhanced by a stationary magnet located adjacent the donor member and a magnet located on the charge metering blade. Both of the additional toner supply magnets form magnetic brushes of toner particles on the donor member surface, these magnetic brushes insuring a constant supply of toner to the development zone despite problematic development conditions.

    • A multi-stage fusing system for fixing toner images to copy substrates of various weights has a primary fuser and a secondary fuser in series with the primary fuser. Various weights of print substrates may have toner images fixed thereon by the primary fuser. The various print substrates are then transmitted to the secondary fuser or directly to a finishing area. The secondary fuser is designed specifically for heavier weight substrates and a bypass paper path is provided for allowing lighter weight substrates to bypass the secondary fuser.

    • In a xerographic development unit, particularly a unit for applying single-component magnetic toner such as used in MICR printing, the end of a donor roll which applies toner to the surface of a charge receptor is provided with a magnetic seal. The magnetic seal extends around at least a portion of the circumference of the roll, and defines a set of alternating magnetic poles arranged in bands which alternate along the length of the roll. The magnetic seal forms a uniform gap relative to the surface of the roll, the gap being sufficiently large to allow a turnover of toner particles therethrough. The design minimizes mechanical stresses on the toner, which in turn avoids the generation of frictional heat in the toner. A member defining magnetic poles can also be used as a shim for mounting a charge/metering blade within the development unit.
