摘要： A device for making nodular cast iron with nodular graphite by introducing metallic magnesium into an iron-carbon melt, includes a drum-shaped treatment vessel with a longitudinal axis. The vessel has an opening for charging and discharging the melt and a chamber is formed within the vessel for supplying magnesium into the melt. Disposed around the opening in the vessel is a collar which extends outwardly from the vessel and the axis of the collar is positioned at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the vessel. Further, as the axis of the collar extends outwardly it is inclined toward the opposite end of the vessel which contains the charge chamber. The treatment vessel is pivotally displaceable between three positions, a filling position, a treatment position, and a discharging position. When the vessel is in the filling position its longitudinal axis is horizontal, while in the other two positions its longitudinal axis is approximately vertical. In the filling position, the vessel opening and the charge chamber are located above the longitudinal axis. In the treatment position the charge chamber is located below the opening and their positions are reversed in the discharging position.

摘要： The cable or chain of a suspension-type conveyor is guided around a tension sheave, which is movable under influence of a suspended weight, spring or the like with change in loading on the cable to maintain the tension constant. A fluid cylinderpiston arrangement is provided, the piston being connected to the movable sheave, for example by being connected to the weight, and the cylinder being filled with hydraulic fluid, on both sides of the piston, the end of the piston being connected together by a bypass, return line which preferably contains a flow constriction. Upon slow movement of the tension sheave, pressure will always equalize on both sides of the piston over the bypass line; sudden jolts, however, cannot be rapidly equalized and also move the fluid cylinder which is connected to operate a switch upon excursion thereof to control operation of the transport system.

摘要： To provide controlled access of molten iron to magnesium which is covered with a protective layer, a plug-like body is introduced in contact with the magnesium, extending through the covering layer (preferably calcium carbide). When the molten iron is poured into the container, the plug-like body will melt by contact with the molten iron, thus providing controlled exposure of the molten iron to the magnesium. To further control the process, the plug-like body can extend beyond the protective covering layer and, itself, be covered with a protective sheath of refractory material which can be lifted off from the body when the exposure is desired. The lift-off mechanism can be used to introduce the plug-like body by providing therein a mechanical or magnetic holding arrangement.

摘要： Swingable transport buckets are supported on a track; the buckets have a bottom wall which is perforated and a catch tray is located beneath the bottom wall spaced therefrom to catch sand and the like from the castings as they are being transported in the buckets. The front lip of the bucket extends beyond the front lip of the catch tray so that, upon tipping of the bucket at a discharge station, the castings will fall out of the bucket at a point remote from the sand falling off the tray. The discharge station is formed with inclined surfaces, extending in different directions, to separate the sand and the castings.
