    • A balloon and method of manufacture for use in catheters for medical procedures, in particular percutaneous translumenal coronary angioplasty and other cardiovascular interventions. The balloon incorporates an inflatable membrane having a number of perpendicular ribs which have a higher resistance to collapse during deflation. A number of longitudinal ribs are provided which are preferably equidistantly spaced about a longitudinal axis and which extend between a proximal and distal end of the balloon. A number of triangular indentations are provided, wherein each triangular indentation is preferably equidistantly positioned between adjacent longitudinal ribs and each triangular indentation extends along a portion of the balloon between the proximal and distal ends. Each triangular indentation may extend through a perpendicular rib to reduce the resistance of the perpendicular rib to collapse during deflation. The number of triangular indentations enhance the collapse of the balloon from an expanded configuration to a folded configuration once the resistance of the number of perpendicular ribs to collapse has been overcome.

    • An advancement block for a clip applying device. The advancement block includes a body that proximally slides in the axial direction when a trigger is squeezed, and further distally slides in the axial direction when the trigger is released, and a toggle pivotably connected to the body, the toggle pivoting in a first direction about a pivot axis generally orthogonal to the axial direction and to a first position when the body proximally slides in the axial direction, the toggle further pivoting in a second direction about the pivot axis and to a second position when the body distally slides in the axial direction. When in the second position, the toggle engages and distally moves the ladder member such that the ladder member distally moves the rearmost clip in the axial direction.

    • A trigger lockout device for a clip applying instrument. The lockout device includes a displaceable slider actuable by squeezing a trigger slidable in first and second directions a longitudinal axial direction within the barrel, and a block disposed within the barrel. When a first number of clips have not been applied and when the trigger is squeezed, the slider slidably engages and displaces the block and slides along a path in the axial direction to retrieve a clip of the first number of clips, and to insert the clip into the pair of jaws, and when a second number or none of the clips have not been applied, the slider engages the block to substantially prevent the slider from sliding along the path in at least one of the first or second directions such that the triggery cannot be unsqueezed.

The clip applying device comprises a handle grip assembly having a handle and a pivotable trigger arranged onto the handle grip assembly. An elongated cartridge support channel is arranged onto a distal end of the handle grip assembly and extending through the handle grip assembly. A pair of jaws is pivotably arranged on a distal end of the elongated channel. A displacable cinch is arranged to slide onto and back from the pair of jaws to squeeze the jaws closed and to permit the jaws to bias open, respectively. A loading port is arranged on a proximal end of the handle grip assembly to permit the clip applying device to be loaded with a clip laden cartridge from the proximal end thereof.
