    • A connector assembly includes an insertion member that includes a plurality of contact pads, and a housing that defines an opening at a first end configured to receive the insertion member. The upper inside surface and lower inside surface of the housing define a plurality of slots into which are placed electrical contacts. Each electrical contact includes a cross-member, a first and a second extension member, a resilient member, and a mating extension. The first and second extension members extend from respective ends of the cross-member and are positioned within respective slots of the housing. The resilient member extends from the cross member from a position between the first and the second extension members. A mating extension extends from the other side of the cross-member and through an opening defined in the rear wall of the housing. The resilient member is configured to make electrical contact with a contact pad of the insertion member.

    • A plug connector for use with a receptacle. The plug connector and receptacle combination may prevent more than one use of the single use plug connector, thereby necessitating disposal of the plug connector and associated, disposable, specialized instrumentation to which the plug connector is connected. The plug connector may be keyed and otherwise identified to the receptacle by shape, tactile indicia and visual indicia so that it cannot be mistakenly used with a different receptacle, while providing proper orientation for rapid assembly. When designed for single use or limited multiple use, the insertion of the plug connector into the receptacle moves a jumper contact in the plug connector from a first position to a second position where it is captured. The receptacle and plug connector may include an interface for a light pipe and a light path that illuminates the plug connector to facilitate assembly and disassembly in areas in which light is limited, such as operating rooms, as well as communicating information to the user.

    • A generally circular plug and receptacle connector system for use with electronic systems and devices is provided. This system includes: a plug component and a receptacle component. The plug component further includes: a housing having an internal channel formed therein for receiving a length of stripped wire; a shielded conduit attached to the housing, wherein the shielded conduit further includes a chamber formed therein; a plug body disposed within the shielded chamber; and a plurality of conductive pins disposed within the plug body, wherein the conductive pins are adapted on one end to be coupled with the length of stripped wire. The receptacle component further includes: a housing having a shielded chamber formed therein; a flanged member disposed within the housing for connecting to the plug component; a receptacle body disposed with within the shielded chamber; and a plurality of conductive sockets disposed within the receptacle body, wherein the conductive sockets of the receptacle component are adapted to mate with the conductive pins of the plug component.

    • An improved I/O device, such as an audio/video router, includes at least a motherboard, such as a matrix board, including a plurality of locating slots and a plurality of connectors located on the motherboard such that when the motherboard is mounted in the I/O device, the plurality of connectors are positioned horizontally across the I/O device. The I/O device further includes a plurality of input/output (I/O) cards, such as audio/video cards, each of the I/O cards including a locating slot and two I/O connectors. In an I/O device of the present invention, the locating slot of each of the I/O cards mates with a respective locating slot of the motherboard such that the two I/O connectors of each of the I/O cards vertically straddle a respective connector of the motherboard thus maximizing a number of inputs and outputs able to be provided in the rear of the I/O device.

    • An improved portable fire hydrant that can operate a water main valve disposed within a water main to produce water for fighting a fire by rotating a valve stem coupled to the water main valve includes an extension through which water can flow when the fire hydrant is coupled to the water main. The portable fire hydrant may also include a sealing mechanism disposed on the extension that seals the portable fire hydrant to the water main. A valve operator may also be coupled to the portable fire hydrant and attached to a valve rod that extends down through the extension of the portable fire hydrant. Disposed on the end of the valve rod may be a coupling mechanism for coupling the valve operator to the water main valve. When the portable fire hydrant is attached to the water main, the valve operator of the portable fire hydrant is coupled to the water main valve so that manipulation of the valve operator will cause the water main valve to reposition. This enables fire fighting water to be provided from the water main to the portable fire hydrant. The fire hydrant may also have an aligning mechanism for properly aligning the hydrant with the water main, and an attaching mechanism for rigidly attaching the fire hydrant to the water main.
