    • A RIB, rigid-hull inflatable boat (22) includes an inflatable tube (24) having a general U-shape with a forward end (26) at the bight of the U and trailing sides (28 and 30) extending rearwardly therefrom along the legs of the U. A unitary rotationally molded hull (32) is nested within the tube and has right and left sides (34 and 36) extending along inner surfaces of the tube, and a transom extending between the right and left sides. The hull is detachably secured to the underside of the tube by a mechanical locking device (132) permitting simple detachment and reattachment of the tube to the hull. A recessed channel (188) is provided in a concave surface of the hull engaging the tube and extending around the perimeter of the hull and forming a gutter for draining water aft from the interface between the hull and the tube. The inner sidewalls (208, 212) of the hull extend downwardly and are curved outwardly and below the tube and the respective concave surface to provide an undercut (210, 216 ) to provide a wider beam and increased floor space. A drain (98) extends through the transom and is provided by a pair of threaded members (102, 104) thread tightened to each other, and a one-way valve permitting drainage out of the boat and blocking reverse flow of water into the boat. A forward pocket-configured compartment (82) receives different types of fuel tanks in differing nested orientations. A bunge system (218, 220) holds the tube against the hull sides at the transom. The transom is strengthened by forward splash guards (40, 42) rearward extensions (44, 46), and anti-compression spacers (48, 50).

    • An outboard marine drive (10) has a powerhead (20) including an internal combustion engine (22), an adaptor plate (24) mounted to the engine, and a lower gearcase (26) including a torpedo housing (28) rotatably mounting a propeller (30), wherein the lower gearcase is directly mounted to the adaptor plate without a driveshaft housing therebetween. An enclosing cowl (68) has left and right sidewalls (72 and 74), a back wall (76), and a top wall (78), and is open to the bottom (80) and open to the front (82) facing the boat. The adaptor plate is mounted to the bottom of the engine and closes the open bottom of the cowl in a horizontal plane, and the engine has left and right sides (84 and 86) closing the open front of the cowl in a vertical plane. The engine has a pair of upper and lower vertically spaced mounting arms (88 and 90) integrally cast with the engine crankcase (92) and extending forwardly toward the boat and journaled respectively to upper and lower ends (100 and 102) of a king pin (98) of a swivel bracket (94).

    • A control unit for an engine of the type having a shift means for shifting between forward, neutral, and reverse and a throttle means for controlling engine speeds between idle and high speed includes a housing and a control handle rotatably supported at one end by the housing. Shift and throttle cables extend between the engine and the housing, and respond to rotation of the handle to control the engine shifting and throttle during portions of the period of rotation of the handle. A lock rod extends through the handle and is adapted at one end to alternately engage and disengage with the housing; and when engaged with the housing, prevents rotation of the handle from a position corresponding to neutral and idle throttle. A trigger at the outer end of the handle is connected to axially rotate the lock rod to radially disengage the other end of the lock rod and permit rotation of the handle out of the neutral and idle conditions. The lock rod engages a lock ring which is coupled to the housing by a pair of pins, the housing being provided with a circular set of holes permitting the neutral position of the handle to be rotated with respect to the housing.
