摘要： A retractable writing instrument such as a pen includes a light assembly in the upper portion of the barrel and a push button to extend and retract the writing tip at its lower end. In the upper portion of the barrel are a battery, a lamp, and a switch which selectively completes or breaks an electrical circuit between the battery and the lamp as a result of movement of the push button. The lamp illuminates a portion of the upper barrel which can serve to highlight advertising indicia on the barrel, or provide an indication of the position of the writing tip, or provide some other special effect.
