摘要： An electronic document delivery system and method in which a broadcast center periodically sends a “catalog” of available documents to a receiving computer, thereby allowing a user to browse through the available documents without having to access the broadcast center. The documents are transmitted as packets, and the packets are decrypted as soon as they are received, eliminating the need to store both an encrypted and an decrypted version of the documents at the receiving computer. The receiving computer periodically receives information allowing it to decrypt received documents and to encrypt billing information for the receiving computer. The invention is not limited to text-only documents and can receive all types of documents, such as software, images, text, and full-motion video.

摘要： A system for distributing separate multiple satellite communication services signals to receivers at a local earth site on a single cable line. A dual satellite antenna receives the signals from two separate satellites, each of which can correspond to a respective satellite communication service. The received satellite signals are processed into two separate frequency bands. A frequency converter using frequency division multiplexing converts at least one of the received frequency bands so as to position both of the frequency bands adjacent to each other. A summer receives the adjacent frequency bands and distributes them on a single cable line to receivers so that the receivers have access to the separate multiple satellite communication service signals on a single cable line. A demultiplexer coupled to the adjacent frequency bands from the summer enables the plurality of receivers at the output of the demultiplexer lines to obtain simultaneous access to both satellite communication services distributed over the single cable line to the receiver.

摘要： An apparatus for providing a secure processing environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a read/write memory for storing encrypted information. It also includes a processor, a cipherer and an authenticator. The cipherer is in communication with the read/write memory for receiving encrypted information therefrom and is configured to decrypt the encrypted information into decrypted information to be returned to the memory for subsequent use by the processor. The authenticator authenticates the decrypted information prior to use by the processor and re-authenticates the information prior to re-encryption by the cipherer.

Preferably, the terrestrial link (which may comprise a conventional dial-up Internet connection) is a two-way link, wherein the requesting terminal transmits data requests to the network via the terrestrial link. The data requests generated by the requesting terminal are modified to designate whether the requested data should be downloaded from the network via the terrestrial link or the satellite link. The terrestrial link may also be automatically selected for certain applications.
