    • A system for estimating an auxiliary-injected fuel quantity includes a fuel injector for injecting fuel into an engine, a fuel pump supplying fuel to a fuel collection unit that then supplies fuel to the fuel injector, and a control circuit that generates an auxiliary-injected fuel quantity estimation model by disabling the fuel pump prior to fuel injection, and enabling the fuel pump to resume fuel pumping following fuel injection, by the fuel injector, determines a first pressure in the fuel collection unit after stabilization of the fuel pressure therein following disablement of the fuel pump and prior to the fuel injection, determines a second pressure in the fuel collection unit after the fuel injection and prior to resuming pumping of fuel by the fuel pump, and forms the model as a function of the first and second pressures and an injector on-time for a number of different engine operating conditions.

    • An integrated fuel injector and ignitor assembly is provided which includes an injector body, a fuel control valve and an ignition device. The components are packaged to create a compact assembly for positioning within an injector mounting bore and particularly in a mounting bore of an existing diesel engine. The assembly may include a fuel reservoir for accumulating fuel for injection so as to stabilize the injection pressure. Also, the ignition device may include an ignition coil mounted on the injector body and a replaceable ignitor electrode cartridge mounted on an opposite end of the injector body to permit simple, cost effective replacement of the electrodes/spark plug.

    • A valve for selectively permitting the flow of fluid therethrough is disclosed including a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a valve seat provided in the housing about the inlet, a displaceable ball for cooperating with the valve seat for sealing fluidic communication between the inlet and outlet and a ball guide for guiding the ball between a closed position in contact with the valve seat and an open position spaced from the valve seat. The ball guide includes a central bore for reciprocally receiving the ball and a plurality of circumferentially spaced fluid passages in fluid communication with the inlet, the passages extending substantially parallel to a longitudinal extent of the central bore such that a flow of fluid through the inlet is directed radially outwardly from the central bore and into the circumferentially spaced passages when the ball is in the open position. Fluid flow through the valve seat is thus restricted to flow through a sharp right angle bend allowing more fluid momentum to be used to hold the ball in a stable position. Accordingly, a majority of the flow is directed underneath the ball and only a small amount of flow goes through the clearance between the ball and the central bore of the ball guide, such that the ball is maintained in a stable condition thus resulting in more consistent flow metering.

    • A fluid control device for use in a high pressure fluid system, the device including a device body with a cavity and a high pressure circuit, a plunger positioned for reciprocal movement in the cavity, and a leakage reduction cap mounted to the plunger for reducing fluid leakage flow. In one implementation, the leakage reduction cap includes a flexible portion positioned between the device body and the plunger, and defining an annular clearance gap between the leakage reduction cap and the device body. The flexible portion of the leakage reduction cap resiliently flexes radially outwardly in response to fluid pressure forces to reduce the annular clearance gap so as to minimize fluid leakage flow through the annular clearance gap.
