    • Apparatus and method for measuring Internal Ocular Pressure (IOP) comprises applying a perturbing vibration into an eye over a range of frequencies. A vibrational response of the surface of the eye is measured such as by using a laser velocimeter, the vibrational response including velocity and rate of change of the phase lag. Further, geometric properties such as volume of the eye are measured such as by using a laser interferometer to measure characteristics such as the eye's axial length and cornea thickness. Use of multiple characteristics normalizes the effect of an eye's mechanical and geometric properties and thereby more accurately determines the IOP.

    • Apparatus and method are provided for measuring the series resistance of each individual cell of a battery bank for establishing the readiness of the batteries. The invention comprises a switch in series with a load, connected across each cell of the battery. An electronic switch momentarily imposes the load on the cell and the value of the current drawn from the battery and the voltage across it is measured with an A/D device. A controller directs a plurality of the switched loads on a plurality of cells. The A/D device and controller on each cell communicates their measurements to a remote host computer, preferably via an RF serial modem. The host computer calculates the internal resistance and provides alarm and other reporting functions. Further, as the measurement imposes a small energy drain on the cell, through independent adjustment of the frequency of measurement for each cell, over-charging of the individually cells can be equalized.

    • A bench-top pill counter accurately and automatically counts a wide variety of shapes and sizes of pharmaceutical pills and capsules, having a variety of coatings. A rotating bowl, periodically shaken during rotation, is combined with a fixed, flared spiral guide ramp causing pills to distribute individually on an annular ledge in the bowl. The pills are dispensed from the bowl onto a sloped slide and counted at the bottom of the slide by an optical counter. The micro-computer determines an optimum speed and shake algorithm for the bowl, based on the characteristics such as the size and shape of the pills, so that the pills distribute individually and only one pill at a time passes the counter.
