    • A fire fighting trainer is provided for use in training firefighters comprising a series of lower profile burner tray assemblies which are fully self-contained for holding water which shields the tray structure from the high temperatures generated during the training exercise. A distribution system is provided to distribute and diffuse the propane above the water with a pilot igniting system for igniting the propane. The tray assemblies are covered by a metal netting which further shields them from the elevated temperatures and provides a walking surface over which personnel can advance during a training exercise. The low profile enhances the realism of the fuel spill fire and minimizes any hazards resulting from tripping on the surfaces.

    • A laser gauge utilizing a parabolic mirror projects a plurality of laser beams parallel to the principal axis of the parabolic mirror. A plurality of reflector means, e.g., three reflector means, are established in front of the parabolic mirror and are positioned to reflect the laser beams into a plurality of groups of paths at different angles to scan across the object to be measured. Photodetector means is mounted to receive the laser beams after scanning of the multiple dimensions of any such object. Output means, including a microprocessor, is connected to receive the output of the photodetector means to determine the dimension along a plurality of crosssectional dimensions of any object in the groups of paths. When three such groups of paths are used, they may be at 120 degrees each with respect to the other to measure the cross sectional dimension of the object at three different places.     • A laser gauge to measure a dimension of a workpiece is disclosed wherein a laser beam is directed through a beam splitter to a rotating mirror at the focal point of a parabolic mirror. This rotating mirror causes the laser beam to scan the parabolic mirror and establish a series of parallel laser beams emanating from the parabolic mirror and directed toward the workpiece which may be a hot forged bar or other such workpiece in a hostile environment. First and second laser beam paths lie immediately adjacent opposite sides of the workpiece and are reflected back to the parabolic mirror along the same beam paths by a retroreflective surface. The laser beams are reflected by the parabolic mirror and rotating mirror to the beam splitter whereby they are reflected to a photodetector. A microprocessor is programmed to determine the dimension of the workpiece in accordance with the positions of the rotating mirror which establish the first and second beam paths. The trainer also includes a propane gas flame generating system having at least one propane gas pressure controller and a gas line with a burner control and a single element or multi-element burner for each chamber. The trainer has a main control panel for regulating the flame generating system and the smoke generating system and for controlling the single fire or spreading fire and smoke in each chamber. The trainer also has one or more sensor assemblies in each chamber, which senses water, foam, powder and temperature, and which is connected to the main control panel to sense the report what and where and how an extinguishing material or medium or agent is being used in each chamber during a test of trainees or fire fighters, so that the single fire or spreading fire and smoke can be simultaneously regulated or reset to suit the conditions in the chamber.

    • An enhanced deck for generating live fire simulations of fuel spill and chemical fires and the like, and includes a pit for receiving a volume of fluid, such as water, within which is mounted a fuel burner array. Gaseous or liquid fuel is delivered to the burner assembly under pressure, resulting in the expulsion of fuel into the liquid, where the fuel transforms into vapor and rises to the surface of the pit. A support surface structure is provided at the top of the pit flush to the ground level to permit vehicle movement. The fuel vapor is ignited at the support surface to generate a training fire.
