摘要： An isotropic coal tar pitch having a low content of carcinogenic compounds is prepared by distilling a coal tar pitch in an evaporator having a specific evaporator surface of from 330 to 10,000 m.sup.2 /m.sup.3, at a temperature in the range of from 300.degree. to 380.degree. C., under a pressure not exceeding 1 mbar, whereby the average stay period is from 2 to 10 minutes. The isotropic pitch thus obtained contains less that 50 ppm of benzo[a]pyrene and is suitable, optionally after adding an oil, resin or other modifying agents having a low benzo[a]pyrene content, for use as binding and impregnating agent and also as protecting agent in construction materials or as varnish (painting agent).

摘要： An anhydrous mixture of extrudable viscosity of an activated alkali metal tantalum or niobium halide powder, an alkali metal halide powder, and a molten alkali metal in about 1:0.75-2.0:4.75-5.5 molar ratio is formed into a paste which is extruded and formed into masses of critical dimensions and temperature. The mass is ignited and a self-sustaining reduction reaction ensues. The reaction product is powdered, washed and dried. The product is pure tantalum or niobium powder in almost quantitative yield. The powder is specially suited for use as electrolytic capacitor anodes. The powder is improved by passage through a plasma of an inert gas.The process can be performed on a continuous scale.

摘要： An arrangement is described for testing diodes serially interposed in parallel feed lines between the terminals of a voltage source and corresponding d.c. bus bars. The arrangement provides for in-circuit check out of the diodes by providing a first switching means positioned in the feed line between one side of the diode to be tested and its corresponding voltage source terminal. A second switching means is connected to the other terminal of the voltage source, through an ammeter, to the side of the diode to be tested which is nearest the voltage source. The first switching means is opened and then the second switching means is closed which impresses across the diode a reverse voltage substantially equal to the terminal voltage of the voltage source. The ammeter provides a reading of the cut-off current flowing through the diode. A parallel arrangement including a voltmeter and resistor are provided for doing a reverse voltage check on the diode and a calibration check on the ammeter as required.

摘要： Tantalum powder obtained by adding magnesium powder to tantalum powder which is prepared by reducing potassium tantalum fluoride with sodium metal, without conventional heat-treatment for agglomeration, to remove oxygen present in the tantalum powder, then washing with an acid and drying; an anode body for electrolytic capacitors produced by sintering the tantalum powder; and, an electrolytic capacitor which comprises the anode body incorporated therein. The tantalum powder has a large specific surface area and accordingly, the electrolytic capacitor in which the anode body produced from the tantalum powder is incorporated has an extra high capacity, i.e., a CV ranging from 70000 to 80000. The probability of causing ignition during the production process is substantially reduced and thus the tantalum powder can be handled with safety.

摘要： The performance of capacitor-grade tantalum powder that is vacuum packaged is enhanced. Preventing contact with air reduces the quantity of oxygen that passes through the oxide film and dissolves in the substrate. Lower oxygen in the powder can lower DC leakage in the capacitor made from the powder. Over a 4-month period, vacuum/argon packaging reduces oxygen pick-up in a 50K-class powder by over 200 ppm compared with the same powder stored in conventional packaging.
