    • A fiber optic device for providing a visual indication when a subassembly, such as an electronic "ATR box", is in place in a rack mounting arrangement with its electrical connections firmly mated with the corresponding rack connections within a small predetermined tolerance. A special fiber optic connector has first and second parts, one of which is attached to the ATR box and the other mounting in the rack for mating concurrently with the mating of the electrical connections. A number of such devices may be provided in a rack of equipment, each fixed rack mounted connector being supplied with a light signal via a length of fiber optic conductor, preferably from a common light source. Within the ATR box unit itself, another length of fiber optic conductor connects the fiber optic connector to the front panel or some other location for convenient observation. In one of the mating connector parts, a slit diaphragm prevents any appreciable transfer of light between the optical fibers of the connector parts until said diaphragm is penetrated and deflected by the opposing optical fiber during the last relatively small increment of movement into the mating operation.

    • A printed circuit board connector is disclosed wherein the pattern of the wire-wrap posts of the contacts in the connector is different from the pattern, and the spacing, of the contacting sections of the contacts which engage the printed circuit board. The bottom of the connector is in the form of a substrate containing plated-through holes which receive printed circuit board engaging contacts without wire-wrap posts, as well as feed-through contacts which are offset from the other contacts and joined thereto by conductive traces on the substrate. A second set of printed circuit board engaging contacts having wire-wrap posts may be provided wherein the contacting sections of the printed circuit board engaging contacts of the connector are positioned more closely than the spacing between the wire-wrap posts of the connector.

    • An electrical connector having a zero insertion force upon mating of a first connector member and a second connector member. Each of the connector members contains contacts mounted in bores formed therein. The contacts in one of the connector members extend forwardly from the bores. A split insulator member in such connector member forms a pair of actuating plates. A rotatable actuating shaft is disposed between the plates and carries an actuating cam which, when the shaft is rotated, shifts the actuating plates apart to mate the contacting surfaces of the contacts in the respective connector members. The actuating shaft carries a pin at its forward end which cooperates with an inclined ramp in the second connector member to cause the connector members to shift axially relative to each other upon actuation of the movable contacts thereby producing an axial wiping engagement between the associated contacts in the two connector members.
