    • A 3D liquid detection sensor, liquid-sensitive building material, and liquid detection systems have been provided. The 3D sensor comprises a 3D liquid detection field and an electrical connector to supply a resistance measurement responsive to liquid in the detection field. In one aspect, the 3D liquid detection field includes a first plurality of pins having a distal end electrically connected to a first electrical contact of the electrical connector, and a second plurality of pins having a distal end electrically connected to a second electrical contact. In one aspect, each pin includes a building material attachment barb attached to a pin proximal end. This permits the sensor to be fixedly mounted in drywall or ceiling tile, for example. More specifically, the 3D detection field may include a dielectric sheet (either rigid or flexible), and electrically conductive traces formed overlying the dielectric sheet, with pins extending from the traces.

    • An aquarium liquid security system is provided. The system includes an aquarium tank, i.e., a plurality of transparent material sheets joined at the sheet edges, and a liquid detection sensor. The sensor is at least partially wrapped around the perimeter, and is electrically responsive to liquid. An alarm interface is connected to the sensor. In one aspect, the sensor includes a pair of electrically conductive ink traces printed on the outside surfaces of the transparent material sheets. In another aspect, the sensor includes a liquid-permeable strip of material, a pair of electrically conductive traces, and a liquid-permeable adhesive attaching the sensor to the perimeter outside surface. Examples of liquid-permeable materials include cardboard, burlap, cotton cloth, synthetic cloth, paper, or cheesecloth. Alternately, the sensors can be formed on the interior surfaces of the aquarium and used for the detection of a low level of water.

    • A liquid-surface detection assembly, a vessel-integral overflow detector, and trans-surface field sensor designs are provided. The detection assembly comprises a trans-surface liquid detection field aligned in a horizontal plane, and a detection signal interface to supply a signal responsive to the detection of liquid surface across the liquid detection field. The trans-surface liquid detection field includes a first set of sensors with horizontal plane mounting interfaces, and the detection signal interface supplies a signal responsive to the measurement of electrical resistance between sensors in the first set. Sensor designs and mounting interfaces specifically tailored for use in a trans-surface field are also presented. Grid, sieve, and tube housing designs are presented that minimize incidental contact with sensor electrodes, but that are able to measure the presence of steady-state liquid surface. These designs also permit a detector to be enabled as a single-station.

    • A flexible liquid detection sensor is provided comprising a flexible dielectric sheet. A detection field, formed from a pair of conductive traces overlies a first surface of the flexible dielectric sheet, having a resistance responsive to a liquid overlying the conductive traces. The conduction field has an impedance characteristic independent of the selected length of the dielectric sheet. Therefore, the sensor can be cut to almost any length, without the sensor length impacting the liquid sensing resistance measurements. In one aspect, conventional electrical wires can be soldered to the traces to form an electrical interface with the monitoring and alarm equipment. Alternately, the connector may include a clamping mechanism to physically secure the connector to the flexible dielectric sheet, along with an electrical interface that includes pins, to at least partially penetrate the dielectric sheet and engage the conductive traces, in response to securing the clamping mechanism.
