    • A press brake tool holder having a horizontally elongated body having a support plate, and a horizontally elongated clamp having upper and lower portions and pivotally attached to the body between the upper and lower portions so as to capture between it and the support plate the upwardly extending shank of a brake press tool. A handle-operated cam shaft is carried by the body and is linked to the upper portion of the clamp by cam follower elements which provide a rigid linkage. Clamps may be thus mounted to both sides of the body, and each can be independently operated when the other is removed. The clamp is mounted to the body by means of mounting pins having articulating heads that are slidingly received in slots in the body, the slots having enlarged entryways enabling the clamp to be removed from or attached to the body by sliding the clamp with respect to the body to align the articulating heads with the slot entryways.

    • A punch assembly to which a tool piece is easily attached and removed. A punch body is provided at its lower end with a fixed locking element having a tool receiving basin. The annular wall defining the basin has one or more holes through it and an annular, downwardly facing rim. A bearing is positioned within each hole for movement between a locked position and a released position. A moveable locking element having an interior surface with at least one recess alignable with the hole(s) and at least one platform also alignable with the hole(s) is slidably positioned with respect to the outer surface of the side wall for movement between a released position and a locked position. The moveable locking element is in the released position when the recess(es) are aligned with the hole(s) so that the bearing(s) may be at least partially received within the recess(es) to enable the tool piece to be removed from the basin. The tool piece may have a frustoconical portion received in the basin and held in the basin when the bearings are held in their locked positions.

    • A tool holder apparatus for a press brake is provided. The apparatus comprises a support plate having a first receiving surface. A pivotable clamp has an engagement portion that is moveable toward the first receiving surface of the support plate by pivoting the clamp. The engagement portion has therein formed a bore in which a lifting shaft is rotatably received. The engagement portion defines an opening communicating with the bore. The shaft has therein formed a notch that is adapted to be engaged through the opening by an exterior corner of a forming tool. The notch is configured such that when the engagement portion of the clamp is forced against such tool, a first surface of the exterior tool corner bears against a first surface portion of the notch and causes the shaft to rotate within the bore, thereby bringing a second surface portion of the notch to bear against a second surface of the exterior tool corner and delivering to the tool a mounting force having a component normal to the second surface of the exterior tool corner.

    • Press brake tool holders suitable for releasing and securing press brake tools in response to applied fluid pressure. One press brake tool holder includes a horizontally elongated body having a cam shaft bore disposed longitudinally therethrough, and receiving a slidably and sealingly mounted cam shaft therein. The cam shaft can have at least one axial camming surface, having a large outer diameter region axially tapered to a small outer diameter region, and in contact with a cam follower pin slidably disposed in a cam follower pin bore transversely disposed through the body. The cam follower pin can bear against a pivotally mounted clamp disposed about the body. In response to applied fluid pressure, the camming surface can slide axially, thereby increasing the effective outer diameter as seen by the cam follower pin, thereby urging the cam follower pin outward and against the upper portion of the pivotally mounted clamp, and closing the lower clamp portion about a press brake tool. One press brake tool has a pair of opposed cam shaft segments with the pressure-bearing faces disposed near each other in the center. Another press brake tool holder has a single cam shaft with multiple camming surfaces disposed over the length.

One or both of the guide members have upwardly-facing guide surfaces laying in a horizontal plane to support a workpiece, and each guide member has a vertical guide surface, with the vertical guide surfaces laying in convergent planes. Adjustment means are provided for adjusting the angle between the vertical guide surfaces of the guide members to accommodate the shape of a workpiece. Desirably, a workpiece support is mounted to the press brake spaced from the gage block, the workpiece support having an edge guide surface positioned to engage an edge of the workpiece and to orient the workpiece with respect to the gage block.
