    • A band clamp used for forming a pipe lap joint. The band clamp includes a band, tightening mechanism, and gasket. The band extends circumferentially from a first end to a second end and is sized to fit over an outside pipe end. The tightening mechanism is connected to the band at the first and second end. The tightening mechanism includes at least one fastener to bring the first and second ends toward each other to tighten the band over the outside pipe end. The gasket is constructed to fit over an inside pipe end and within the outside pipe end such that the gasket is at least partially sandwiched between said inside and outside pipe ends. The gasket has an embossment extending radially outwardly from an outer surface of the gasket and being constructed to be received at least partly within a slot of the outside pipe end.

    • The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for timing calibration in a PET scanner. According to one embodiment, the invention relates to a method for timing calibration in a PET scanner having a plurality of scintillator blocks. The method comprises: detecting, in a first scintillator block, a first radiation event, wherein the first scintillator block time-stamps the first radiation event; detecting, in a second scintillator block that is adjacent to the first scintillator block, a second radiation event that corresponds to the first radiation event, wherein the second scintillator block time-stamps the second radiation event; and determining a timing characteristic of the first scintillator block with respect to the second scintillator block based on a comparison between the time-stamps of the first radiation event and the second radiation event.

    • A device for producing electrical discharges in an aqueous medium, the device has a first electrode 3 and a second electrode 4, where each electrode 3, 4 is made of a metal alloy 5 and each has an electrode tip 3C, 4C integral or otherwise affixed to said electrode 3, 4. Each tip 3C, 4C is made of a metal alloy and at least the outer surface of such tips includes a percentage of gold or platinum. Preferably the entire tip 3C, 4C portion is made of an alloy 5 having between 0.02 to 20 percent weight percent gold or platinum. The tip metal alloy 5 preferably has a base composition of steel, more preferably a base composition having either at least 4 percent cobalt or at least 4 percent nickel in combination with the small amount of gold or platinum. The use of gold or platinum provides exceptional electrical conductivity, but improves the ductility of the tip material such that the explosive and corrosive effects of the high voltage plasma discharges in the acoustic shock waves are greatly diminished.
