    • A thermal processor having a contaminant removal system. The system includes a heated drum for heat developing exposed heat developable media which emit airborne contaminants during the development; a plurality of rollers located about a circumferential segment of the drum to hold an exposed media in contact with the drum; an enclosure for enclosing the heated drum and plurality of rollers, the enclosure including a first upper curved member spaced from and enclosing the rollers and the upper portion of the drum and a second lower curved member spaced from and enclosing the lower portion of the drum, the first and second curved members having first ends spaced from each other and defining a film entrance region, and further having second ends spaced from each other and defining a film exit region; wherein the first upper curved member includes a curved duct having a first opening above the rollers and a second opening configured to direct gaseous fluids away from the film exit from the drum. The system further includes a top condensation trap communicating with the second opening of the duct; a bottom condensation trap; and an air flow control system for drawing ambient air from outside the enclosure through the film entrance region, splitting the air flow into (a) a top flow stream which passes between the first member over the rollers, through the duct and through the top condensation trap where airborne contaminants are condensed and the air stream is cooled, and (b) a bottom flow stream which passes between the second member and the lower portion of the drum and through the bottom condensation trap where airborne contaminants are condensed and the bottom flow stream is cooled.

    • A thermal processor includes an oven for thermally developing an imaging media which produces gaseous contaminants during development. The gaseous contaminants includes odorous portions and condensable portions which have a condensation temperature. A contaminant removal cartridge has a housing configured to couple to the oven, a heat exchanger, and a filter module. The heat exchanger receives from the oven at least a first air flow at a first temperature, wherein the first temperature is above the condensation temperature, and including gaseous contaminants. The heat exchanger cools the first air flow to a desired filtering temperature, which is below the condensation temperature, to condense and collect the condensable portion of the gaseous contaminants and form a filtering air flow. The filter module receives the filtering air flow, to collect the remaining condensed contaminants, and to absorb the odorous portion of the gaseous contaminants to form an exhaust air flow.

    • A thermal processor includes an air flow preventing means that substantially prevents the flow of air from a processor exit into a thermal processing compartment. The prevention of air flow reduces processing defects that otherwise could occur in sheets of thermally processed material handled by the thermal processor. The reduction of processing defects enhances the quality of the sheet of thermally processed material. In particular, the reduction of processing defects can enhance image quality of a sheet of photothermographic imaging material. The prevention of air flow reduces processing defects by maintaining a substantially uniform temperature within a thermal processing compartment of the thermal processor, and by reducing the condensation of fatty acids on interior surfaces of the thermal processing compartment prior to filtration.

    • A thermal processor for use in developing an image in an imaging material which is transported along a transport path through the thermal processor. The thermal processor includes a preheat assembly for preheating the thermally processable material to the threshold temperature. The preheat assembly includes a heated member having a major surface facing the thermally processable material. A dwell assembly is provided for thermal development of the image in the thermally processable material. Means are provided for moving the thermally processable material along the transport path through the preheat assembly and the dwell assembly including a roller assembly which contacts the thermally processable material. The roller assembly includes rollers positioned between the heated member and the thermally processable material. Means are provided for reducing optical density loss in the thermally processable material, including means for selectively changing the temperature of the heated member as the thermally processable material moves along the transport path.
