    • A wireless power transmission system including at least one source of electromagnetic radiation, a plurality of wireless power receivers that receive radiated electromagnetic energy, a beacon collocated with each wireless power receiver, wherein the beacon generates and radiates a pilot signal when the beacon is in an active state, and an array of transmitting antennas connected to the source of electromagnetic radiation that radiates the electromagnetic radiation in the direction of the beacon in the active state. The electromagnetic radiation can be electronically steered from one wireless power receiver to another by activating and deactivating the beacons collocated with each wireless power receiver.

    • A biconical antenna having fully adjustable design parameters. The biconical antenna has a coaxial feed having outer and inner conductors. A lower support structure secures a lower cone to the outer conductor. An upper support structure secures an upper cone to the inner conductor. A dielectric window support is disposed between the lower and upper support structures. To make the antenna relatively lightweight, each cone may be made of sheet metal plates that are connected to the lower and upper cone support structures. A reservoir is formed within the upper cone. Dielectric material, such as oil, is disposed within the antenna. Air bubble escape holes are disposed in the upper support structure so that air bubbles that are formed at the coaxial feed can escape to the reservoir. The holes do not allow electromagnetic power leakage between the coaxial feed and the reservoir, and the position of the holes is such that the air bubbles rise from the coaxial feed into the reservoir. Tapered dielectric material may be positioned between the upper and lower cones. A first shape tapers inwardly from the first and second cones toward the dielectric window support. A second shape tapers outwardly from the first and second cones away from the dielectric window support.

    • To transport electromagnetic energy at high power levels, a coaxial-to-waveguide power combiner/divider comprises a length of single-conductor closed waveguide terminated at one end by a conductive end plate. A plurality N of holes is formed in the end plate. A conductive matching plate is positioned within the waveguide opposite and spaced apart from the conductive end plate and spaced apart from the inner walls of the waveguide. A plurality of coaxial input/output ports each comprise an outer conductor that is electrically and mechanically terminated at the end plate about one hole and an inner conductor that extends through the associated hole into the waveguide and is electrically and mechanically terminated at the underside of the matching plate. The location and geometry of the matching plate and physical arrangement of the N ports are chosen so that the sum of the direct reflection and the N−1 coupled reflection contributions are small.

    • A combined environmental and electromagnetic rotary seal. The invention is adapted for use between two mutually rotating components of an electromagnetic energy transmission system and provides simultaneous protection against contamination from the environment and unwanted electromagnetic leakage. In the illustrative embodiment, a first set of grooves is cut into the exterior of a first conductive cylindrical component whose interior contains a portion of a millimeter-wave beam waveguide energy transmission system, the grooves comprising the electromagnetic portion of the seal and a second set of grooves is cut into the interior of the conductive housing enclosing the first conductive cylindrical component. The second set of grooves comprises the environmental portion of the seal when a set of standard environmental seals (such as elastomeric o-ring seals) are seated in each groove in the second set of grooves and each seal is compressed between the groove in which it is seated and the exterior of the first conductive cylindrical component. The environmental seals maintain a nearly uniform annular gap between the first conductive cylindrical component and the conductive housing such that the two conductors do not make physical contact.
