    • An electrical power outlet having an outlet box and an electrical connector insert attached to the outlet box. The electrical connector insert has a frame and a powerpole connector assembly attached to the frame. The powerpole connector assembly has a plurality of powerpole connectors. The electrical power outlet includes a face plate that is attached to the frame of the electrical connector insert. The faceplate has an opening through which the powerpole connectors protrude. In one embodiment, the plurality of powerpole connectors has four powerpole connectors arranged in two columns, wherein each column has two powerpole connectors. The opening in the face plate is substantially rectangular in shape. In a preferred embodiment, the face plate is configured as a Decora® style face plate.

    • A pop-up power and communication outlet apparatus having a hollow leg structure having an interior, a top end having an opening in communication with the interior of the hollow leg structure, and a bottom end. The apparatus also has a power and communication outlet structure that has a sleeve structure disposed within and attached to the hollow leg structure, and an outlet center movably disposed within the sleeve structure such that the outlet center can move vertically with respect to the sleeve structure. The outlet center has at least one power outlet or at least one communication outlet. In a preferred embodiment, the outlet center has a plurality of power outlets and a plurality of communication outlets. A lift mechanism is located within the sleeve structure and is connected between the sleeve structure and the outlet center. The lift mechanism urges the outlet center upward. A latch mechanism is attached to the sleeve structure and has a first configuration that retains the outlet center within the sleeve structure and a second configuration that allows the lift mechanism to lift the outlet center upward so the power and communication outlets are visible and accessible.

    • An apparatus for dispensing utilities at a selected location of a work station. The apparatus has a housing that has an upper peripheral portion and a pair of oppositely positioned sidewalls that extend downwardly from the upper peripheral portion. The housing defines a spatial region between the sidewalls. The housing has an opening that is bounded by the upper peripheral portion and in communication with the spatial region. An inner support structure is attached to and between the sidewalls of the housing and located within the spatial region of the housing. The inner support structure has sidewalls, a bottom portion and a pair of lengthwise panel members that define a spatial region of the inner support structure. The inner support structure has a generally “V” shape cross-section wherein the lengthwise panels are angulated with respect to the bottom portion and away from each other. A utility receptacle module is attached to each lengthwise panel. Each utility receptacle module has at least one utility receptacle that is in communication with and accessible through the spatial region of the inner support structure. A cable extends from each utility receptacle module and is in electrical signal communication with the utility receptacle. Two lid members are movably attached to the housing of the inner support structure. Each lid member is movable between a closed position and an open position that provides access to the spatial region of the inner support structure and the utility receptacles.

Each power and communication receptacle device comprises at least one power receptacle, at least one communication receptacle, and a power cable assembly having a dual power head. The network further comprises a power feeding cable that comprises a power feeder for connection to a dual power head of one of the power and communication receptacles, and a device for connection to a power source. The network further comprises a communication signal switching device that has a plurality of ports wherein the communication receptacle of each power and communication receptacle device is in electronic signal communication with a corresponding port of the communication signal switching device. Other embodiments of the invention are disclosed herein.

    • A retractable power and communication outlet apparatus for use with an article having a work surface. The apparatus has a power and communication outlet structure that is sized to fit into an opening in the work surface of the article. The outlet structure includes a shell having a perimeter, a top end and a bottom end. At least one power outlet and/or communication outlet is connected to the shell. A bottom plate member is attached to the bottom end of the shell and has portions thereof that extend beyond the perimeter of the shell. The bottom plate member has a top side and a bottom side. The apparatus also has a slide apparatus that has a stationary rail member and a movable member that slides upon the rail member. The movable member is attached to the bottom plate member so that the power and communication outlet structure can move between a retracted position and an extended position. The apparatus includes a mounting plate for attachment to the bottom of the work surface. At least one magnet is attached to the portion of the bottom plate that extends beyond the perimeter of the shell.

    • A lid assembly for an outlet unit built into an article having a work surface, the power and communication outlet is positioned below an opening or cut-out in the work surface, the opening has an inner side that extends about the opening. The lid assembly has a lid structure that has a pair of lid support members that are joined to the lid at a corresponding side of the lid. The lid assembly further includes a pair of pivot support members that are configured to be joined to the inner side of the opening in the article. Each pivot support member has an inner side and a pivot pin member joined to the inner side. The lid structure is attached to the pivot pin members and pivotal between a closed portion and an opened portion. The lid structure pivots in a first direction to attain the closed position and in an opposite, second direction to attain an opened position. At least one stop member is joined to a corresponding pivot support member to prevent the lid structure from pivoting beyond a first predetermined distance. The lid structure rests upon the stop member when the lid structure is in the closed position. At least one interfering member is joined to one of the pivot support members so as to prevent the lid structure from pivoting in the second direction for a distance that is greater than a second predetermined distance.
