    • An apparatus for warming blood and other parental fluids as they are infused through a disposable flow system includes a pair of heating elements which heat the blood as it passes through a warming bag provided in the flow system. The heating elements are recurringly switched on and off with a duty cycle dependent on both the temperature of the blood at the output of the warming bag, and the temperature differential between the output and input of the bag to maintain the blood at a predetermined temperature independent of flow rate. A duty cycle alarm circuit senses current supplied to the heating elements and trips the main circuit breaker of the apparatus to terminate operation in the event current is continuously applied over a predetermined interval of time, and temperature range and door alarm circuits sound an alarm if the output temperature of the blood falls outside of a predetermined range or if the operator attempts to remove the warming bag from the apparatus while the apparatus is in operation.

    • A rotary distributor seal for a rotary centrifuge which comprises a tubular housing having sealed ends, a relatively rotatable fluid conveying apertured spindle coaxially mounted in the housing, and several resilient, spaced ring seals positioned about the spindle to seal the annular space between the spindle and the housing, and to subdivide it into several annular chambers. Ports communicate with the chambers to provide fluid flow from the ports through the separate chambers and through the spindle. In accordance with this invention, support members are positioned in alternate, spaced chambers between pairs of ring seals to prevent collapse of the ring seal pairs together.

    • A page-wide, drop-on-demand type ink jet printhead and an associated method of manufacturing an orifice plate. The orifice plate is comprised of a block of material in which a first portion of the block of material has been removed to define an ink reservoir. Also formed in the orifice plate are a series of apertures, each of the apertures includes an ink jet and an ink jet nozzle. A fill channel, which extends between the ink reservoir and each ink jet, is also formed in the orifice plate to provide a supply of ink to the ink jet. An intermediate layer is mounted to the orifice plate. The intermediate layer is formed of an active piezoelectric material and a series of piezoelectric actuators, each acoustically coupled to a corresponding one of the series of apertures, are formed on the intermediate layer. By applying a voltage differential between first and second electrodes, which make up each piezoelectric actuator, the intermediate layer is deflected to effect ejection of a droplet of ink from the aperture acoustically coupled to each piezoelectric actuator.
