摘要： In general, the invention facilitates improved inter-module communication within a medical device system, such as an automated external defibrillator (AED), by using a serial data interface based on the USB specification to transfer data between modules. As a result, data transmission rates may be improved significantly, thereby providing ample communication bandwidth for a variety of medical device applications. Further, the serial interconnect nature of the USB interface reduces the number of physical interconnects that are needed to support the interface, thereby reducing the design constraints on the medical device system.

摘要： A method of synthesizing multilayer heterostructures including an inorganic oxide layer residing on a solid substrate is described. Exemplary embodiments include producing an inorganic oxide layer on a solid substrate by a liquid coating process under relatively mild conditions. The relatively mild conditions include temperatures below 225° C. and pressures above 9.4 mb. In an exemplary embodiment, a solution of diethyl aluminum ethoxide in anhydrous diglyme is applied to a flexible solid substrate by slot-die coating at ambient atmospheric pressure, and the diglyme removed by evaporation. An AlOx layer is formed by subjecting material remaining on the solid substrate to a relatively mild oven temperature of approximately 150° C. The resulting AlOx layer exhibits relatively high light transmittance and relatively low vapor transmission rates for water. An exemplary embodiment of a flexible solid substrate is polyethylene napthalate (PEN). The PEN is not substantially adversely affected by exposure to 150° C.

The portable medical device determines when the data transmission has ended, and automatically powers down after data transmission has ended. For example, the portable medical device may receive a signal from the other device, which is generated by the other device to acknowledge receipt of the complete data transmission from the portable medical device, and power down in response to receipt of the signal. In some embodiments, the portable medical device also determines whether it is appropriate to automatically power down after the data transmission has ended, and powers down based on this determination. For example, the portable medical device may determine that it is currently being used to treat a patient, in which case powering down may be inappropriate.
